About this listen
Franklin D. Roosevelt, commonly known as FDR, served as the 32nd president of the United States. He was a compelling orator who inspired millions with his "fireside" radio speeches during the Great Depression of the 1930s and his wartime addresses to the nation in the 1940s.

Story
One of Roosevelt's best
Narration: clear, considering the age of the recording and technology available at the time.
Content: Good example of meaningfully crafted speech meeting few specific objectives. Nothing fancy here, just a straightforward presentation of facts and exhortation to Americans to ready themselves for a long, necessary fight against tyrannical regimes. Speech is also a good example of simple prose suitable for communicating with a population varying greatly in ability to understand complex ideas.
