About this listen

Before he discovered my age, he uncovered my heart.

Bruised and abused, and victim to a loveless household, I shimmered with new life the moment he found me drowning my sorrows in a lake beneath the stars.

A chance encounter. An unspoken connection. I was smitten. He was curious. But, as everyone knew, fate could be decidedly cruel.

He called me Halley, like the comet. I called him Reed. And my best friend? Well… she called him Dad.

Older is a forbidden, slow-burn, age-gap romance standalone, ending in an HEA.

Outstanding performances are exactly what the author's intense and emotional story need. May need to break out the kleenex box!

Moving and intense.

Lawd! This one was a doozy, so well written, makes you feel everything. But broke my heart a million times over. So happy I read this masterpiece but will definitely need something light following this one. Feel like this will live on repeat in my mind for months.

Gut Wrenching - but in the best way

The change in actors from Reeds chapters to Haileys is too much and also the female actor sounds very young and it was too much for me.

Filp flop

This was such a powerful story about two people who were meant to be together. The story of a woman who escapes abuse and finds the life and love she has always deserved, with lots of time and challenge on the road to happiness. Great references to music of the Grunge era! Took me back!

When I first saw this book I thought it was really long and was afraid I would get bored with it, but that was not the case at all. It really kept me guessing what would happen next. Great love story but I also loved how it followed the tragedy of Halley’s life all the way to her happy ending. Great narrators and just overall a good book!

Get ready to go on a rollercoaster of feelings. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

I was crying so hard during this book. it has so much raw truth intertwined into the story. The main character was wise beyond her years and I appreciate the author giving her a keen mind and strong spirit. It's definitely worth reading.

So much here!

3.75 / 5 stars!

I enjoyed this read for the most part. I love forbidden age gaps, and I started out absolutely obsessed with this one! It's honestly probably the least sad Jennifer book I've read to date, and I was surprised for once I didn't cry (although there is still some sensitive content so check your trigger warnings.) I will say there was a point maybe 50-70% in that felt a little repetitive internal monologue and dialogue wise as far as the FMC and MMC goes. I love a good push and pull tension, but this specific part made it drag just a smidge because of that receptiveness. Now set that aside, and I got Birthday Girl vibes, and I was here for it. This is an incredibly slow burn, but the tension and angst were everything. The forbidden felt like that hopeless kind of forbidden, which I ate up. Also, you've got 90's setting and a FMC that has been through some stuff that makes her feel... well older than her actual age. I loved the majority of this read, and I thought the narration (duel) was great!

close second to Birthday Girl
