I enjoyed that this book was written by a black woman for other black women. Given that it was less than a 7 hour long audiobook, I was able to listen to it in two days which was great!

Supportive Book for Black Pregnant Moms!

As a black woman going through her first pregnancy this was helpful however I cannot help but notice there is a lot of trauma in the story. As much as the author tried to empower the black maternity experience, it sounded very deeply traumatic. Obviously her story is helpful to other women who are going through similar situations as she had. I chose to pick what I liked and I did learn a lot so I'm thankful for this book.

Very Insightful

The BEST book on pregnancy

I’m an expat living abroad in a predominantly white country, when I fell pregnant my immediate worry was where am I going to find a community to help me navigate this chapter. My mom passed away 8 years ago, there are questions I wish I could have asked her however I’m grateful to have a sister who has gone through the journey and although it wasn’t easier for her I’m reminded on the resilience and strength of the women in my family. This book was like having another black women sit me done and have a one on one with me about motherhood. It felt like I had someone who could answer all the burning questions I had plus guide me on topics I didn’t know. It was compiled so well and absolutely loved how the chapters flow into each other. It was the perfect balance between humour, education and sensitivity. I wish all my black sisters to read this book if you feel you don’t know where to start. It truly has been a comfort in my pregnancy.

As a black woman, I’m so glad I found this!

I love how the book gives expert opinions, as well as personal experiences, and a modern outlook, on black pregnancy in America in all of its glory and gloom wow, also looking at cultural significances.

This book was relatable and easy to listen to. This author covers every aspect of becoming a mom. From the stages of pregnancy to different types of parents, to trials and tribulations. I would recommend this to any of my friends who are new mom 10/10.

As a first time mom and woman of color, this book was EXACTLY what I needed to hear to ease my nerves and prepare for this new journey. My biggest takeaway was that I am NOT a single mother; instead, I am a single woman who is also a mother.

Loved this!!!
