About this listen
Cradled in swords, the war child comes.
October. When leaves turn blood and the wind turns bone: a time for doing things dark and strange. So the princess bears a child to the winged thing and the cries are heard far beyond the peaks of Dragon's Teeth, at the end of the world's Beginning, where Nepanthe and Mocker wait for the war that wizards dread.

Story
Two hundred years after nuclear and chemical weapons have nearly annihilated the global population, the last of mankind struggles on in isolated communities. Law and order is carried out by the Political Office, black-clad police who rule through fear and violence, commanding the world's survivors how to think, how to act, and when to obey the call to the Gathering: the ritual massing for war against an unknown and unseen enemy. Now the call has come, and all nations must pay tribute.

Passage at Arms tells the intimate, detailed and harrowing story of a climber crew and its captain during a critical juncture of the war. Story
It is one of the most well-known and well-loved fantasy epics of the twentieth century: the story of Elric, emperor of the dying kingdom of Melniboné. For a hundred centuries the Melnibonéans have ruled from the Dragon Isle of Imrryr. Now, after years of corruption and decadence, Elric’s amoral cousin Prince Yyrkoon, the brother of his beloved Cymoril, sets his eyes on the Ruby Throne. Elric must face his treacherous cousin not as a warrior but as a sorcerer king once again in league with the ancient gods of Melniboné, the Chaos Lords, and thus sealing his inexorable fate.

In a world scarred by an apocalyptic past, evoking a time both 2,000 years past and 2,000 years into the future, untold thousands gather for a crusade. Among them, two men and two women are ensnared by a mysterious traveler, Anasûrimbor Kellhus - part warrior, part philosopher, part sorcerous, charismatic presence - from lands long thought dead. The year is 2380. The Intersolar Commonwealth, a sphere of stars some 400 light-years in diameter, contains more than 600 worlds, interconnected by a web of transport "tunnels" known as wormholes. At the farthest edge of the Commonwealth, astronomer Dudley Bose observes the impossible: Over 1,000 light-years away, a star...vanishes. It does not go supernova. It does not collapse into a black hole. It simply disappears.

Get the gist, but prepare for confusion
the mercenary leader-reluctant leader-Ragnarson gets pulled into battle after battle, the final one for a queen’s kingdom that’s falling apart after her husbands death.
Spoiler alert-The Dread Empire is at work behind the scenes. Kids switched for changelings, yet heirs on both “sides”(it gets confusing) end up assassinated. It seemed to me that there were many names of people, of towns, of leaders, and other sundry characters – all of which get thrown around throughout the book. Timelines switched around, along with allegiances. I believe I got the gist of the story, But I was glad that the story ended so I could move on-and hopefully get some clarity with the third in the sequence. I love Glen Cook, however the Black Company series was much more satisfying, albeit they were written after these books.
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
