About this listen
From the New York Times best-selling author of A Dog Named Christmas comes this heartwarming Christmas story about the power of family and the strength and love that comes from our pets.
In this fourth installment of the poignant stories of the McCray family and their lovable canines in rural Kansas, matriarch Mary Ann McCray is determined to shake up Christmas by accepting the role as Crossing Trail's first woman Santa Claus. Mary Ann, always a bit of a rebel, is looking to offer a more progressive voice in the staunchly conservative town at Christmastime and has a few ideas up her red velvet sleeves.

Story
In this heartwarming novel, Greg Kincaid, the best-selling author of A Dog Named Christmas, revisits the early life of one of that book’s protagonists and brings us a holiday tale of redemption, hope, and forgiveness. It’s 1962, and as Christmas approaches so does one of the worst snow and ice storms in Kansas history. Without utilities and emergency services, it is a dangerous time for the residents of Cherokee County. For the McCray family, it is even worse.

The holidays are swiftly approaching when the Goss family suddenly faces a life-or-death crisis. Setting their differences aside to come together to weather the storm is easier said than done, and the last thing the family needs right now is to add a little, lost puppy into mix. Sometimes, though, the most priceless holiday gifts are the unexpected. And the key to setting things right might just come in the smallest, scrappiest of packages.

A little preachy
I thoroughly enjoyed the first 3 books. It was still nice to follow the characters but several times I felt like I was being preached to instead of told a story.

Sweet story
This is the 4th book in the McCray family Christmas series. I usually listen to informational texts on Audible. I wanted a light Christmas story and started with “A Dog Named Christmas” and have worked my way through all the books. I enjoyed each one. One of the best aspects was that the same person narrated/read each story. That helped tremendously in the continuity over the series.

A beautiful story of love and selflessness
I couldn’t stop listening. Although some parts were predictable, the beauty of the story of love, selflessness, and neighbors, who become family wouldn’t allow me to pause and listen later. I look forward to more stories by Greg Kincaid, and narrated by Mark Bramhall.

Loved this book
I have absolutely loved all of Greg Kincaid's books! This is no exception. I am no "spring chicken"...but this author brings out the child in me and I have enjoyed listening to all his McCray Family books. The narrator is fantastic and brings the characters to life.

Great addition to the series
Another wonderful addition to the Dog Named Christmas series!
It was great to see how things have changed with the McCray family since we last left them and boy oh boy there was some big news at the end so I sure hope there will be another book with McCray's!
Mark Bramhall's narration was as always wonderful!

Another Great Kincaid Christmas Book!
If you've followed Kincaid's series of Christmas with the McCray family, you're absolutely certain to be delighted with this latest installment.
Not only is Mary Ann turning Christmas on its head by being the town's (and the entire area's) first Mrs. Claus, Todd is growing up, and the elder McCray's are indeed getting older. There are questions of giving instead of receiving, of love, of faith for the future. And of course! There are lovable dogs along the way.
What I like best about Kincaid's sometimes predictable stories is that he's not afraid to tackle the other issues that are beneath the surface during what are supposed to be the peaceful and happy times that are said to go hand-in-hand with the season: separation and divorce, pain and recrimination, alcoholism and dis-ease. And all are helped with love and selflessness.
Though Noelle is possibly the strongest of the four books, feel free to start anywhere on this fine Christmas Eve/Season. You're sure to feel the warmth, the love, the happy friendship (of struggling people, of faithful four-legged friends)!

Not my favorite of the series but still good.
Although the perfect story to become a Hallmark love story Christmas classic, this story is too full of adulting and heavy life to be a good family read aloud or listen.
But it’s ok for adults. It dragged along a bit for me this time when the others didn’t, but the last few chapters kept my attention and the end had me grabbing a tissue. Tissue grabbing always means a good book.
Four stars just because I didn’t like it as well as the rest of the series.
I do hope we hear more about Todd and Laura and even Elle.
As always I love this narrater for these stories. He does a great job
