About this listen

In this stunningly twisty thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author Harlan Coben, a secret from former Detective Sami Kierce's college days comes back to haunt him. His memory is clear, but all these years later, the facts don’t add up…which is something he cannot ignore.

Sami Kierce, a young college grad backpacking in Spain with friends, wakes up one morning, covered in blood. There’s a knife in his hand. Beside him, the body of his girlfriend. Anna. Dead. He doesn’t know what happened. His screams drown out his thoughts—and then he runs.

Twenty-two years later, Kierce, now a private investigator, is a new father who’s working off his debts by doing low level surveillance jobs and teaching wannabe sleuths at a night school in New York City. One evening, he recognizes a familiar face at the back of the classroom. Anna. It’s unmistakably her. As soon as Kierce makes eye contact with her, she bolts. For Kierce there is no choice. He knows he must find this woman and solve the impossible mystery that has haunted his every waking moment since that terrible day.

His investigation will bring him face-to-face with his past—and prove, after all this time, he’s nobody’s fool.

Editorial Review

Will he find redemption, or will his past destroy him?
This is one of my most anticipated books of the year. Fans of Fool Me Once, whether you devoured the book or binged the Netflix adaptation, are in for a treat as Harlan Coben returns with the sequel Nobody’s Fool. Picking up a year after the shocking events of the first book, this novel plunges into the tumultuous world of former Detective Sami Kierce, a man struggling to outrun both his past and his tarnished reputation. I am eager to see how Kierce’s story unfolds. Will he find redemption, or will his past destroy him once and for all? If Coben’s track record is any indication, Nobody’s Fool will be a gripping, edge-of-your-seat ride filled with high-stakes drama and the kind of storytelling that keeps you guessing until the final page. —Dawn G., Audible Editor

The narrator’s voice is auditory torture! He way overemphasizes everything and his “character voices” for women are atrocious.

Had to return, listened to a lot of Coben’s books but have to return this one an hour in. Overly dramatic narrators take me out of the story. The breathy dramatic reading is distracting. I’ll read it instead as the premise looks good.

Coben does it again.
I started this book in the afternoon, not sure if it would grab me. Well, it grabbed me, and I listened through the night to find out what happened.

Sami falls for a girl while on vacation before heading to college. Its like a Spring break hook up; partying, drinking, hanging out, bedroom fun, even drugs. He's falling head over heels and he plans on moving in with Anna.

But...something goes wrong, obviously.
After a night of heavy and hard partying, he wakes up covered in blood, and there's a knife in Anna's chest! OMG, now what???

And as with all Harlan Coben book, that's only a small part of the story. There's so much more left to tell.

Two decades later, Sami is teaching a class and who does he see in the back of his class? Anna!!
This doesn't just open a can of worms, it opens multiple cans of worms!
I love Harlan Coben books!!!

I have always enjoyed Harlen Coben’s books. This one is no different. Good main character. Loved that he is an ‘underdog’. Good plot twists and enjoyable narrator.

Always a Twist

Harlan Coben does it again!

I had not met a Harlan Coben book I didn’t like/love until now. I found the main character annoying and unlikable. He doesn’t even come close to living up to Coben’s previous main characters. He came off as arrogant and I couldn’t find anything kind, noble, or heroic about him.
The story is repetitive and full of cliches and failed attempts at wit.
Are we sure this was written by Harlan Coben?!
To make it all worse I felt that the narration for the main character was unpleasant, grating, and over dramatic. It was reminiscent of TV’s old Batman played by Adam West - weird gravelly whisper suitable for a comic book hero but hard to take seriously in a legit novel. I started and stopped listening to the first few chapters several times before I decided to bite the bullet and just get through it.

My First Coben Disappointment

So many events over many years added complexity but often seemed irrelevant to the story being told. The main guy is hard to like because he spends so much time looking at what he lost, instead of what he’s got. To be quite honest, I liked the easy to love characters of earlier books so maybe the problem is me. The ending is as complex as the story. Although I knew who done it early on, the revelation of how and why was much more complicated.

Complex Story

Another knock out for Coben! Fantastic story all the way til the very end. I wish he’d write quicker. ;)

Outstanding!
