It was good. It just through me off hearing a male voice. I did truly enjoy the story. I was cracking up laughing at times while I was driving by myself. People in the car next to would just stare at me. I almost died when they had to give up the steak
So a paying customer could eat it.
Good book over all

I have read all of Beverly Jenkins' books multiple times. The narration of this book is a disservice to a wonderful story. Please consider doing this again with a new narrator.

Narration is horrible.

Any additional comments?

This was a thoroughly enjoyable read. Not predictable. Strong characters and ensemble cast. While I am not necessarily a western reader, I loved this story and recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good book. The narration was superb.

I love Beverly Jenkins. I think her books are amazing. This book didn’t touch me like the others. I kind of feel like it was because of the narrator. I don’t know that the story line was weak so much as the narrator did not do a good job of portraying the characters. I was disappointed because normally I can’t get enough and I found myself wanting this one to be over so I could move on to the next.

Not my favorite

Night Hawk was a very well rounded and complete story. I really liked Preacher. He was in The Taming of Jessie Rose, and I had no idea that he had his own story. It was a pleasant surprise. Maggie was an okay heroine, though far from being one of my favorites. I think my subtle dislike for her has a lot to do with the narration.

The narrator, Kevin Free, was horrible with the female voices. They all, especially Maggie, sounded like a man trying to sound like a woman, which was creepy. The voices were jarring and continually pulled me out of the story. The whispered voice of Preacher was much better, though I kept expecting to hear him say, “I’m Batman,” in that Michael Keaton way. Other than Preacher, the narrator did not do a good job at varying the voices. At times I wasn’t sure who was speaking.

That being said, I enjoyed the book overall.

I like how the meeting of the two main characters developed a wonderful life. Each learning how to love each other.

The set of the story in the 1800’s about biracial characters
