About this listen

Lucas Davenport tracks a prolific serial killer in this nail-biting number one New York Times best seller from John Sandford.

Clayton Deese looks like a small-time criminal, muscle for hire when his loan shark boss needs to teach someone a lesson. Now, seven months after a job that went south and landed him in jail, Deese has skipped out on bail, and the US Marshals come looking for him. They don't much care about a low-level guy - it's his boss they want - but Deese might be their best chance to bring down the whole operation.

Then, they step onto a dirt trail behind Deese's rural Louisiana cabin and find a jungle full of graves.

Now, Lucas Davenport is on the trail of a serial killer who has been operating for years without notice. His quarry is ruthless, and - as Davenport will come to find - full of surprises....

Critic reviews

"[Sandford is] his usual entertaining self in this hard-core adventure.... Davenport is an inspired creation." (Marilyn Stasio, The New York Times Book Review)

"The Prey novels are wildly entertaining with their clever plotting, mordant humor, and smart-ass dialogue. This one doesn't break the pattern." (Booklist)

Excellent Writing • Engaging Plot Twists • Vibrant Character Portrayals • Humorous Dialogue • Fast-paced Action

Sandford, Ferrone, and Lucas Davenport are all still great! Sometimes I have trouble finding new books to listen to, and I listen again to one of this series, or the Virgil Flowers series.

still my favorite author

Sad to see Sandford value SJW politics more than good story telling. I will just read or listen to his older books over again rather than give these new ones any of my time.

I miss the older books, the younger Davenport.

As a longtime Las Vegas resident, I can appreciate the references to local landmarks, streets, etc.... But "Showboat Mall"...???? 🤣

Enjoyed the Las Vegas location

The only complaint I have is John Sanford doesn't write these masterpieces fast enough. I love all of his books!

As usual John Sanford didn't disappoint.

It's Davenport and it's Sandford - what's not to like about that? Maybe not the best Sandford book, but still it's always good to hear what Davenport is up to. Eagerly awaiting the next one . . .

Very good

Very exciting and captivating. Great storyline and twists in the plot. Narrator did a wonderful job of capturing the different characters.

I love the well defined characters who are flawed. This entire series had me hooked from the first Prey book I read years ago.

I would recommend John Sanford to anyone who really wants the intellectual challenge of reading this series attempting to guess the way all the different threads of story development come together to create an experience.

Sandford does it again!

I did enjoy this book. It's a lot better than some of the recent Lucas stories. However no where near as good as the early novels. I've just started listening to "Eyes of Prey" again. It's a masterpiece. Amazing tension and really good character development. Sadly it's obvious that Sandford is now under contract to produce a Lucas every year and his heart has not been in it recently. But I hold hope that Neon Prey is a turning point.

Better than the last few

The format for LD is pretty much the same regardless of who he is working for. That being said this is another classic novel with a character we’ve come to love. Hopefully Virgil gets another story soon.

Another Success
