Story
Most people have heard of the Celts - the elusive, ancient tribal people who resided in present-day England, Ireland, Scotland and France. Paradoxically characterized as both barbaric and innocent, the Celts appeal to the modern world as a symbol of a bygone era, a world destroyed by the ambition of empire and the spread of Christianity throughout Western Europe. Despite the pervasive cultural and literary influence of the Celts, shockingly little is known of their way of life and beliefs, because very few records of their stories exist.

Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey are unquestionably two of the greatest epic masterpieces in Western literature. Though more than 2,700 years old, their stories of brave heroics, capricious gods, and towering human emotions are vividly timeless. The Iliad can justly be called the world’s greatest war epic. The terrible and long-drawn-out siege of Troy remains one of the classic campaigns. The Odyssey chronicles the many trials and adventures Odysseus must pass through on his long journey home from the Trojan wars to his beloved wife.

Story
German military history is typically viewed as an inexorable march to the rise of Prussia and the two world wars, the road paved by militarism and the result a specifically German way of war. Peter Wilson challenges this narrative. Looking beyond Prussia to German-speaking Europe across the last five centuries, Wilson finds little unique or preordained in German militarism or warfighting. Iron and Blood takes as its starting point the consolidation of the Holy Roman Empire, which created new mechanisms for raising troops but also for resolving disputes diplomatically.

Story
The Water Margin is one of the most popular classics of early Chinese literature. It tells the vigorous story of 108 characters who, falling foul of the established state authorities, are forced to become outlaws. They form a bandit community in Liangshan Marsh, becoming such a formidable force in their own right that they threaten the power of government itself.

Audiobook for younger audience (8 to 12 years old)
Most of the stories did not make sense. The narrator sounds like a robot, did not put much emotion into the story

Beautiful Collection, I Loved It
I have listened to several audiobooks in this series and this one is my favorite. Each story was so beautiful, it sounded like a song about nature and men, sea breeze, wind and animals. Narrator did a great job telling these stories and giving voices to characters in legends of various Native American tribes. I Loved It.

Animals stories galore
First of all, the narrator is excellent and really makes the stories come alive. I was surprised, and enjoyed, the uncomplicated nature of the stories. Most are short and without interpretation. The listener is left to find their own lessons in the tales. As the tales seem to be meant for children I find that interesting. There is one story that really struck me. It is about a man from one tribe that married a woman from another tribe. The two tribes fought each other and the man stayed with his wife's tribe, fighting his own people. He clearly found loyalty to his new tribe to be of higher honor than his blood connection. Fascinating.

Excellent listen
It is a shame that I didn’t know more about Native American mythology, history or culture being an American. So it was a great experience learning about some of the ancient beliefs of the native people of the land of the birth. The stories were interesting and diverse. The narration was excellently done.
