About this listen

An indentured human woman. An Imperial man on a mission. A fake marriage born in the stars.

When my master died, I believed I’d be set free.

Instead, I’m sent to a temple where I’m forced to continue doing the one thing I know—pleasing alien males.

Until Gael the Returner arrives.

Half-human and half-Imperial, he travels the galaxy, rescuing humans.

But instead of offering me my freedom, he has other plans.

He needs me to spy for him, then he swears he will set me free.

I just need to marry him first.

What starts as a marriage of convenience to the most dangerous criminal in the sector becomes something more.

Everything I do is for him.

But after the life I’ve led, my complicated past, so much stands in our way.

I thought Gael would give me freedom, instead, he’s entrapped my heart with no means of escape.

One-click this thrilling, dark, and intense sci-fi romance filled with morally grey characters, damsel in distress, and a fake marriage that leads friends to become lovers, despite the complications it brings.

MFC Lara is a survivor and has done just that since being abducted from Earth as a child.
The galaxy is not a nice place for humans.
My Human Wife is quite the dark and intense story and author Olympia Black is definitely an acquired taste.
I find her writing style different and genre breaking but didn’t find myself quite as taken with the narration of this audiobook version.
I can be overly particular when it comes to the listening experience and didn’t find myself engaged with the voice talents used here.
The story is an impressive very detailed exploration into the life and times of a woman who longs to be free but has to put that dream aside when half human and half Imperial MMC Gael the Returner who travels the galaxy rescuing humans, makes Lara an offer for her assistance with his current mission, and she cannot refuse if she wants to escape from her current dire straits.
The story overall is a good one and does reach an HEA, but the author’s trigger warnings should be heeded for sensitive readers/listeners before taking this highly unusual journey.

Good Story!

My Human Wife is a dark, intense sci-fi romance that pulls you in right from the start. Lara’s journey from being abducted and enslaved to navigating her fake marriage with Gael, a half-human, half-Imperial on a dangerous mission, is full of twists, tough choices, and emotional struggles. The story is heavy and can be hard to read at times, but it’s gripping and full of morally grey characters.

Narration: Bridget Bordeaux nails Lara’s raw emotions, while Jake Bordeaux does a solid job with the male voices, though Gael’s character felt a bit too detached at times. The dual narration really adds a nice touch to the overall experience.

Recommend?
Definitely, if you’re into darker, complex sci-fi romance. Just be ready for some heavy themes!.

Intense Storytelling with Morally Grey Characters

This audiobook was very well done and I found the chapters with both POV very insightful and unique. However the storyline wasn’t for me. Slave given to temple only to die or be bred and then married off only to be used as a spy. My real relationship between her and the MMC. I kinda wish she woulda stayed and made Komos a better dude

Human slaves and lots of new alien concepts!

Gael and Lara. Hes half Imperial and half Human. Her master died and now instead of being set free she given by the ICG to a galactic temple thats really a brothel for aliens to use the women who inhabit the temple. Her only escape from the rock in space is on a transport. She must please the goddess by being picked by an alien who might just kill her. Gael learns that a human has been dropped at the temple. He wants her for information. In this galactic world words of a certain meaning mean other things ie "I Choose" him is I will marry him. He doesnt and he does want it. The book tells more extensive explanation for what my review tells. And its an adventure you cant get off of till the end. Really liked this story.
This book mentions the IGC and the Imperials who are thought to be of the same species as humans that are in Alma Nilsson Alliance series books which is an interesting intergalatic world as is this authors book that seems to weave both galectic worlds and species. There is humor.

The Story

The story is about Lara who was kidnapped as a child and sold as a slave. Her master dies and she's sent to a temple where a half-human half-imperial man comes to save her but they accidentally end up married. She's then sent to be a spy in a harem of humans.

I have to admit the story was okay but it could have been better. Lara and Gael didn't seem to have as much as a connection as the story was leading me to believe to be honest they barely spend any time together before she's sent off to spy but when they reunite they are madly in love it didn't seem very organic. I really wish this could have been a longer story so we could have seen the relationship evolve.

The bad guy didn't seem soo much like a bad guy to be honest I thought at one point he was going to turn out to be the real good guy but no so that was kind of weird but with the title being My Human Wife I guess that wouldn't have made much sense but it would have been a good plot twist.

I did enjoy the world that the story is set in. I've read alien romances with tentacle monsters but this was something else, it definitely kept you listening so you could find out about these other species.

The sex even when it wasn't consensual was still pretty hot. The scenes that were meant to be arousing definitely did their jobs and the scenes that were meant to be revolting also really hit their mark. The opening few chapters were quite a shock being dumped into this world.

I wish we had gotten a more conclusive epilogue and found out more about the other women that were in the harem but that didn't happen so that's a little disappointing.

All in all it wasn't the best story but it definitely wasn't the worst. It had some good moments.

The Narration

Bridget and Jake do a good job of bringing the characters to life and differentiating between all of them. I loved that this was a duet narration it takes you into the story a lot more than dual narration style. They both give a solid performance and they are what truly makes the story worth listening to. I'll definitely be seeking out more books narrated by this duo.

A must pick up for those who enjoy alien romances. Our half Imperial/half human male protagonist shows up to save Lara from a sex temple. She is thrust into a plan to free humans from a harem under an Imperial man. I feel the dual narration worked well for the audio and binged it in one sitting. Please mind the content for those who are sensitive.

Science fiction novel that will appeal to those with an interest in BDSM. The woman is placed in a difficult position where she takes great risks in order to help others - and is bound and dominated along the way. Fun little plot twist at the end, too.

Delightfully kinky

Not quite sure how I felt about this one, I guess it felt a little more real than most sci-fi romances. My heart really went out to Lara, when she finally thinks she’ll be free, she ends up married and then sent on an undercover mission where she must once again be treated as a pleasure pet. It was hard to connect with Gael as we see him only in the beginning and end of the book. No matter how he feels for Lara, his wife, he definitely doesn’t charge in and save her, but then again they have a greater cause that they are trying to bring about. Sacrifice must be made, so in that sense Gael and Lara are strong characters, Lara more so. The female narrator was good, I enjoyed her parts. The male narrator was ok, the way he voiced Gael to me was very flat and emotionless even when I felt the dialogue needed emotion.
