About this listen

Halia Watkins has her hands full cooking, hosting, and keeping her boisterous young cousin, Wavonne, from getting too sassy with customers. Having fast-talking entrepreneur Marcus Rand turn up in her kitchen is annoying enough when he's alive - but finding his dead body face-down on her ceramic tile after hours is much worse.

Marcus had his enemies, and the cast iron frying pan beside his corpse suggests that at last, his shady business deals went too far. Halia is desperate to keep Sweet Tea's name out of the sordid spotlight but her efforts only make Wavonne a prime suspect.

Now Halia will have to serve up the real villain - before the killer returns for a second helping....

What listeners say about Murder with Fried Chicken and Waffles

Highly rated for:

The Audiobook Appears To Be A Cozy Murder Mystery Set In An African American Community, Featuring A Protagonist Who Runs A Soul Food Restaurant. Many Listeners Enjoyed The Engaging Storyline, Intriguing Mystery, Delightful Characters, Humorous Elements, And The Inclusion Of Recipes. However, Some Felt The Pacing Was Slow, The Portrayal Of Characters Was Stereotypical, There Were Excessive Details That Dragged The Story, The Narration Was Weak, And There Were Instances Of Racial Insensitivity. The Main Themes Revolve Around The Murder Mystery, Soul Food And Cooking, African American Culture, Family Dynamics, And Small-town Life.

Cute and cozy

This was a cute book. It was a good mystery. The characters and storyline were relatable. It was nice to hear characters that sound like my family, f friends, and people I know. I loooved the recipes and will definitely be trying my hand at the corn casserole.

Cute Lil Murder Mystery

I enjoyed the story and I'm looking forward to the sequel. The only thing I will say is that the narrator didn't do the best job at disguising her voice for each character. But that isn't a game changer for me!

Clocked by the food that makes you!

I love the quick recipes that almost anyone kind do. It's good old down to earth common sense mixed with tomfoolery and shenanigans. If you're looking for a good murder mystery with a dash of soulful flavor this is the book for you.
