Small Town Corruption
I thought I might be lost when I first started but was able to pick up on the characters quickly. I enjoyed this fast paced suspenseful book. Even in rural Montana Deal finds corruption and danger. The problem is that you don't know who you can trust and even those you think you can have secrets. When the criminals seem to be one step ahead you are constantly trying to figure out who is leaking the information and who can be trusted. It's going to take an army to get rid of this enemy but he's going to have to bring in outside agents in order to pull this off.

A New "Deal"
I was entertained by this book, but I thought that the character of Matt Deal was too domesticated in the first part of this story. There was a lot of building the plot, and it took a longtime until I started seeing the Matt Deal character that I recognized from previous stories that featured him as the main character. I liked the character of Biance, Mickey Fretwell's niece. After the action got started, the book was more impactful. Steve Schaeffer's narration was good, and his performance enhanced the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Intense!
This is the fourth book in the series. The story is intense, complex and captivating, filled with action, danger and unpredictable twists and turns. Steve Schaeffer did an excellent job bringing this story to life. Looking forward to listening to Night's Redemption, the next book in the series. #StoryOrigin

Detective Series
This is my first experience with the Matt Deal Detective series. I must say, the writing is excellent and well-detailed. The narration was enjoyable too. I approached it with an open mind since this isn’t my usual type of mystery. Regrettably, I found it challenging to overlook several issues and fully appreciate the experience. I wish there had been more information about the history of the O’Hare family's actions that caused nearly the entire town of Cut Bank to be gripped with fear. Yes, it had many twists to keep the audience engaged, but it felt repetitive and familiar. It often reminded me of Die Hard and Reacher movies. The characters seemed to engage in more inner dialogue than I felt was necessary. Additionally, it bothered me that this small town of 3,000 people has an unrealistically high number of police officers and deputies.

Dangerous corruption.
I was disappointed in this book. I have listened to the others and rated them 5 stars. This plot was good with wonderful characters. But it was so repetitive and inconsistent. One minute they will do anything for law and justice, the next they want to quit. That is just one example of many. I took too long to get into the action, but once it did, wow, exciting.
The narrator is easy to listen to, but was not able to get me any more excited.
I was gifted this audiobook from the author through Story Origin. This is my honest review.
