About this listen

When Ben Hammond reluctantly embarks on a pensioners’ coach tour, he is surprised to find that he has met one of his fellow passngers before. It is Miss McGuire, his former maths teacher…and she is acting rather strangely. On the journey home, Ben realises that Miss McGuire is no longer on the bus, but when he is told she stopped to visit her sister, alarm bells start ringing: Miss McGuire had no sister.

Ben is compelled to investigate and, when he does, he unearths all manner of dark secrets. Suspicious characters lurk in the gloom of the Full Moon Inn and, at a nursing home not far from the coach’s route, elderly people are disappearing….

What did you like best about Miss McGuire is Missing? What did you like least?

Having three elderly people go on a quest to solve the case of a missing school teacher is a nice idea, and something different from the usual mystery story fare. Especially as the sleuths in question bicker among themselves along the way!

The story is probably a bit too long if anything, as I found it a bit slow in parts.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

'Miss McGuire is Missing' kept me guessing until the end, so I enjoyed finding out the resolution. (I guessed the outcome wrongly, of course!)

What aspect of Andrew Wincott’s performance would you have changed?

Andrew Wincott did the North of England accents reasonably well and made the characters believable enough. I didn't think there was much life in the actual performance though.

Was Miss McGuire is Missing worth the listening time?

'Miss McGuire is Missing' was an entertaining audio-book. Maybe it dragged a little bit early on, but once the story got going I found myself wrapped up in the characters and their quest.

Any additional comments?

An interesting mystery story with plenty suspense, and plenty of humour thrown in too. The story has a nice twist at the end.

A fun story to listen to for people who like mysteries...

This listen was such a disappointment. The story had no direction, and the characters were uninteresting. I found it very hard to get to the end of this one. Give it a miss.
