The Enchiridion is the famous manual of ethical advice given in the second century by the Stoic philosopher Epictetus. Born to a Greek slave, Epictetus grew up in the environment of the Roman Empire and, having been released from bonds of slavery, became a stoic in the tradition of its originators, Zeno (third Century BCE) and Seneca (first century CE).

Story
As former tutor and adviser to Emperor Nero, philosopher and statesman Seneca was acutely aware of how short life can be - his own life was cut short when the emperor ordered him to commit suicide (for alleged involvement in a conspiracy). And Seneca proved true to his words - his lifelong avowal to Stoicism enabled him to conduct himself with dignity to the end. During his rich and busy life, Seneca wrote a series of essays that have advised and enriched the lives of generations down to the present day.

Story
For the ancients, everything worth pursuing in life flowed from a strong sense of justice—or one’s commitment to doing the right thing, no matter how difficult. In order to be courageous, wise, and self-disciplined, one must begin with justice. The influence of the modern world often tells us that acting justly is optional. Holiday argues that that’s simply untrue—and the fact that so few people today have the strength to stand by their convictions explains much about why we’re so unhappy.

So, what’s your favorite Bible verse? Wait, let me guess. Is it Jeremiah 29:11? Maybe Philippians 4:13? Or could it be John 3:16? Don’t get me wrong—those are all great, but let’s be honest, we hear them a lot. I’m willing to bet your favorite passage probably isn’t coming from Haggai, Obadiah, or Nahum—right? But guess what? Learning the basics from historical heroes
I love learning new things, and this book was one I had never heard of before. Stoicism is a weird name for a way of life that uses the philosophies of historical heroes like Marcus Aurelius. Learning how to slow down and enjoy the moment was a lesson I needed. Great book.

really insightful add to the previous audiobook
I was excited for this new audiobook after loving Cole’s The Philosophy of Stoicism. The first half had me hooked, it introduced fresh ideas and thoughtful exercises that felt practical and empowering. I genuinely enjoyed looking to apply those lessons to my daily life. However, the second half was the exact content from his previous audiobook which I didn't expect (I should've read the summary lol). Still a great recap!
