About this listen
Here’s the deal: I’m not here to scare you or make you paranoid. I’m here to guide you, friend-to-friend, through a topic that can feel overwhelming and, frankly, a little intimidating. Martial law is one of those things people rarely think about until the idea is staring them in the face. And trust me, the last thing you want to do is scramble to figure out what to do when it’s too late to act.
Why me? Well, I’m just an ordinary guy who’s spent a lot of time thinking about how to handle extraordinary situations. I’ve studied survival tactics, prepared my own family for emergencies, and learned from experts and real-world events. Along the way, I’ve made plenty of mistakes (you’ll hear about those too), but I’ve also gained practical knowledge that anyone—yes, even if you’ve never thought of yourself as “a prepper”—can put to use.
Now, let me get one thing out of the way: I don’t think we should live in fear of martial law or any other crisis. I’m a big believer in staying calm, staying informed, and staying prepared. That’s why this book exists—to give you the tools you need to feel confident, ready, and safe, no matter what happens.
We’re going to keep things real and straightforward. I’ll break down what martial law is (spoiler: it’s not a movie plot; it’s very real), how it works, and, most importantly, how you can protect yourself and your loved ones if it ever happens. Along the way, I’ll share tips, personal stories, and little tidbits that I’ve picked up—things that have worked for me and could make a difference for you, too.
This isn’t about building a bunker in your backyard (though, hey, if you’re into that, no judgment here). It’s about helping regular folks—moms, dads, college students, retirees—get ready in practical, no-nonsense ways. Whether you’re a total beginner or someone who’s dipped their toes into preparedness, you’ll find something valuable here.
So, grab a cup of coffee, settle in, and let’s tackle this together. By the time you finish this book, you’ll have the knowledge and confidence to face the unknown head-on. And who knows? You might even start enjoying the process of getting prepared.

"Feeder" mindset means being in control of a situation, proactive rather than reactive. It is an optimistic outlook that reframes any situation as a learning experience. Kevin Estela teaches survival skills from this feeder-based perspective, which is what separates his teaching style from other wilderness instructors. Kevin has written the quintessential guide for an outdoor enthusiast's "bucket list" of skills - how to make a fire, build a shelter, gather food, find water, use a knife correctly, and make cordage.
