About this listen

Dying the first time sucked. Matt's trying to avoid a repeat performance.

Having to save the world after being reincarnated is rather enjoyable. In a soul-crushing responsibility kind of way. For Matt, joining Earth's last line of defense in a magical realm might just be what he was re-born for.

Trading his office cubicle for battlefield chaos of a 4x game world is bonkers. The world map is made out of hexagrams, the units are semi-sentient and his opponents have a head start. As if that wasn't enough, there's no instruction manual for this nightmare. Now, Matt's going to have to figure out how to rule a Magic Kingdom at War or face annihilation along with the world he once knew.

Magic Kingdom at War is a tactical, base-building, crunchy LitRPG novella series by Tao Wong, bestselling author of the System Apocalypse, A Thousand Li, Climbing the Ranks, the Hidden Universe and Adventures on Brad series.

This is the first writing of Tao's that I have read/listened to that has disappointed me. The premise is interesting, but I felt like I was observing someone playing a video game and adding their own creativity just to make the game more interesting.

I will say the character interaction and the story that develops, although I think there could be more there to make it better, was pretty good and interesting. Its about all that held my interest. Maybe the rest of the series is better, but I do not feel inclined to get any of them.

The rest of Tao Wongs writing is excellent though esp the Thousand Li.

A bit of a disappointment

I love Tau Wong’s “A Thousand Li” series. Here he paints by the numbers. The things that made the other series great—friendships, challenges, well developed character interactions, or even plot development and world creation are absent. Almost Worth $4.95 sale price.

Not worth 1 credit

A great start to a story. The only problem is it's very short and it should be more at amosan of the group of books. Because this is more like a cash grab than anything. When it comes to the size of the story, it is a great story. And a great start to a new series, I just think that. There should be more

Great story. A little too short needs to be more of an amusement, then individual

Tao Wong masterfully straddles the line between slice of life and LitRPG action. I finished it in one sitting and I immediately went to get book two.

The characters are more than cliches and even a minor villain has depth of character. The book doesn’t end on a cliff-hanger but you definitely feel you want more.

Neil Hellegers is an excellent narrator, well suited to this book.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author and I chose to write this review.

Loved it. Need more!

I don’t know if the first chapter was supposed to make me like the MC. Honestly, I am at the stage of my life where I empathize with the boss more. I didn’t like the MC right off the bat for his work ethic. The story was fun. The 4x approach is rare in the genre though not completely novel. I don’t get why it is done in such small installments though. The narration was good.

Overall good.
