About this listen
You know, there are some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed. This was one of those days.
My head hurt. There was blood everywhere. My ship was shot full of holes and leaking more gases and fluids than a 1976 Chevy Vega...the one with an aluminum block. I should have just pulled the sheets up and rolled over when I had the chance....
I’m admiral of the fleet, Jeremy David Riker. My friends call me "Dog".

Story
It’s odd the way some things work out. You expect to wake up dead, and instead, you wake up to the beautiful face of your wife. I was understandably confused. I had died…or at least I sure as heck thought I had. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining. I’ve been alive for a number of years now, and to be honest…I’m quite fond of it. I just didn’t understand "how" I was alive. My name is Fleet Admiral Jeremy Riker…but my friends call me Dog. This is my story.

Story
2067 was the year I died for the first time. It was painful. Had I known how often I'd be expected to die over the next several millennia, I might have made a stronger effort to stay dead. The year actually started off rather nice. I finished my PhD in high energy physics and was promoted to lieutenant commander in the United States Air Force. My first posting after the promotion was to the Lunar One Air Base where I worked with my father, Dr. Robert Kimbridge, on "The Project".

Story
In the 25th century, humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy?

Good but lost some of it zing!
Still a good story but this one was written so fast you do not or I could not follow the storyline. Thus one left me confused and wondering what happen even the narrator could help it

"Even the popcorn machine was broken."
So many ways to die in space, especially when facing the Defilers. Told from 'Dog's' perspective - the cloned Admiral - who admits to having ' a gift when it comes to being an irritant', the ongoing story is filled with spaceships, fight action, A.I.s, humour and good straightforward space opera. Oh, yes, and a plague. There is a cliffhanger ending, so not a standalone, and it's also best if book one is read first.
Again narrated skillfully by Dave Cruse. He carried the text well, with good pacing, modulation and just the right amount of slick amused investment in the text to fully fit the character. Good individual voicing for every protagonist, too. A fine performance which made the short book even more enjoyable.
I received War Dog at my request, as a complimentary copy, from Free Audiobook Codes, and would like to thank the rights holder for making it available for anyone who wants to freely download.

An awesome Series
Ol' Dog is a different type of character that's for sure, as are all the rest. The way Dog gets you to laughing, and then throws you a curve ball, and your right in the middle of the action is awesome. You have to check it out for yourself. Dave Cruse does an excellent job with the Narration, and he has quite a variety of voices to make it all come together.

Excellent Military Science Fiction
This is very well-written with excellent situational progression. The vocal pressure was absolutely professional. All through this story, a PG rating is expected, as the author was able to communicate the narrative keeping the language quite clean.
I would recommend this audiobook to ages 14 or older as the story requires an imagination of of a good adventurer.

very good
This was a well written space opera. I started with the second book because it was on sale (I think?) but I didn't feel lost at all.
The premise was a bit novel and enjoyable. There were clearly defined good guys and bad guys. The science seemed fairly well thought out. This isn't an epic series like The Expanse series but I liked it. There was a nod to STNG: a character named Riker, tongue in cheek references to "warp drive", the captain going on away teams and a relationship between the captain and female doctor. Also, a nod to the original Star Trek with an engineer with a Scottish accent. There were probably more that I missed. It didn't feel like a rip off though.
The narrator had distinct voices and accents for all the characters. Even the aliens and AI's were given specific speech patterns.
My only con is that the books are fairly short. I like to get more reading time for my money. Unless the first and third book go on sale, I probably won't get them. Aside from that, I'd recommend this series

Summary:
The plot’s the same as about a gazillion other scifi stories, with some subtle changes.
Additional Comments:
• Admiral Jeremy Ryker’s clone is off in space fighting to save humanity.
• Narration style is charming and definitely not serious. That keeps things interesting.
• Performance was just as good as the first story. I don’t remember much about the first book, but it was decent. I found some voices used highly annoying, but given the text, I’m not sure the narrator could have made it less annoying. The words had to have been written in a halting manner.
• Some allusion to sex, but nothing described and no curse words.
• Decent world-building.
• Typical save the human race sort of plot. Teleporting was new. Not much is explained about that but there is a book three. It wouldn’t surprise me if that came back in a big way.
• Light scifi. Oh there are alien races and space battles, but they’re more realistic than most space jockey stories. One smack and your ship’s pretty much toast.
Conclusion:
A worthwhile light scifi story you don’t have to think about too hard, just enjoy the ride.
*I got the book on a free code site. I understand I do not have a set-in-stone obligation to share my thoughts, but have freely chosen to do so anyway.
