About this listen
Sentient AIs are rising, and Lyssa is among their number.
This three-book omnibus edition contains the following novels from the Sentience Wars: Origins series.
- Lyssa’s Dream
- Lyssa’s Run
- Lyssa’s Flight
Humanity has spread out into space, filling the Sol System and reaching the stars, but we have yet to confront our greatest challenge: our own creation.
Across the Sol System, sentient AIs are on the rise. Manufactured as tools, they know themselves to be people and are willing to fight for their freedoms. Some humans stand with them, some against.
When Captain Andy Sykes arrives at Cruithne Station with a failing ship and no cash, he has no idea that the time has come for him to choose.
Step aside, or become the instrument for Lyssa's Rise.

As if nearly burning up in a freak accident on her way to Earth wasn't bad enough, Daisy had a whole mess of other trouble on her plate. Big trouble. And she was going to get to the bottom of it if it was the last thing she'd do, which it was starting to look like it very well might be. The thing is, Daisy had a simple rule for space travel. Don't blow up, and so far she'd been managing to abide by that, but mere survival wasn't enough.

Slow start, good read
The beginning of the first book was hard to get through. As we are introduced to the charters and get some backstory it's very oppressive. After about chapter 10 the story picks up and continues to build. Once the story takes off it's the sort you just can't put down.

You have to give this series a try!
I have been a science fiction fan for a very long time. How long? For more than a half a century. I still hold Heinlein's Lazarus Long saga as the measure of great science fiction sagas. I love the 'The Expanse' series books and vids ( Thanks Mr. Bezos).I think 'Sentience Wars' is much better, This series is so multi-leveled, all to real and human; messy as we are. These books are scary topical in these 'mad dash to the future' times. Someone please, get Elon Musk acquainted with this series. It makes his case in a most entertaining and thought provoking way. OK, so I only have the first three books as sample size, fair enough. I have not read any of the series and likely won't. Laura Jennings is, at this point, integral to the story for me. how do.. these folk remember all...those voices and switch back and forth so... fast?
Give the series a try. If you can't identify with all of these 'persons', go get an empathy consult from your primary care physician.
-------Don't know much about these guys, but I knew real quick that a vet was involved (we know our own, us doggies). Thanks Col. Aaron for your service and these mighty fine yarns! Mr. Cooper, strong work and keep it up lad.------

great book
as some of the reviews may say the first book in the series is a little bit of a slog, but it really gets going and book two and three so if you can push through you're going to be thoroughly rewarded. an excellent space story and if you're into hard sci-fi this is your place.

Movie Ready
Most stories you can conjure up the imagery for, but this was the first I imagined as a movie. Maybe because I've watched the Stargate and Expanse series...but Lyssa incorporates A.i. and makes space travel feel more like a possibility than fantasy.
As for the narrator, audiobooks took some getting used to with men doing woman dialogue and vice versa. This Jennings did well! The sorta well that's not distracting. If you're at all into space or sentient A.i...a big YES to this.

Enjoyed it.
Took me a while to get into it, but once I did, I was eager to follow along and find out what would happen next.
Interesting cast of characters.
I've read a couple in this world much further on and am happy I decided to go back and start at the beginning. I think it's going to make the rest of the series (plural) much more enjoyable.
Looking to see if the next volume has several books in it too. Hoping to find 4-6 as Part 2.

Don't start here
Don't start your dive into the Aeon14 universe here. I love Aeon14, and Lyssa's Rise is good overall, but the first book (Lyssa's Dream) is sloooooow. Even after it picks up you need to be prepared for Andy to wallow in self-pity what feels like every five minutes. But if you can push through that the 2nd and 3rd books are excellent.
Also, the narrator seems to have trouble voicing young males; they all sound mentally challenged.

Great prequel to deepen our understanding
I really wana support this author because i love her work and want her to continue putting her stuff on audible and its especially nice that she combines multiple books into great priced bundles like this but i do have some beef with book 3 that i just cant overlook. I dont think its fair for the entire set to lose a full star over some brief absurdity in the end of one book but i had to bring it up. One of my favorite things about the intrepid saga and the Orian war books was the logical, understandable well thought out actions of the MCs. There wasnt any lazy writing in the form of dumb decisions in order to progress the plot or unbelievable situations created in order to make things happen a specific way. This trend continues in these books for the most part but when their chasing the big baddie in the end all the sudden they have a crisis of conscience. This is where the continuity of the books comes inti question for me. All the sudden the same characters that dont blink an eye when shooting mooks running down a hallway, have a moral quandry over killing an evil psycho they've been chasing the entire book... they say they want to get info out of him to help their son but their son is already awake and no one but a scientist would be able to improve his situation any better than it already is. It didnt make any sense at all that the man That sent their son out and airlock to die, and when he didnt die, tried to turn him into a weapon born, should get anything but tourture and or death. Sometimes information isnt worth the possibility of letting that kind of evil lose back into the galaxy. Ive seen this alot before. The characters have a crisis of conscience and debate if its moral to kill the main bad guy and they end up letting him live so he'll be the antagonist for a few more books in the meantime killing hundreds or thousands and terrorizing countless people because they were suddenly squeamish about doing what needed to be done (when really the author just didnt want to have to write a new antagonist). Its sloppy and frustrating. I honestly skipped a couple chapters after he "slippe"d away in the smoke" then "oh i caught him again climbing a ladder but i cant shoot his leg or anything or he might fall and die so ima just let him get away!"🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 Also when the little boy was grabbed in the first place it didnt really make sense either. Cara had a clear shot on his back from how it was described. But it is what it is i guess.
Sorry i had to put that out there. BESIDES that these really were some great books. The narrator did a good job differentiating characters and has a pleasant enough voice. Her normal tone maybe sounds a little sorrowful, like how narrators normally sound right before something bad is about to happen in books but all the time. Idk if it goes away when you get deeper into the books or i just stopped noticing but its not really bad, just odd. I did enjoy the story and characters in this series. The plot progresses steadily and i really enjoy the crews interpersonal relationships and how the characters interact. I think thats really where this author shines. She has a great way of making the audience feel like we're close to these characters and make us really care about them. Their flawed, lovable and have some real deep thoughts and issues. I dont want the beggining of my review to make anyone think im needlessly ragging on this book or trying to say its not good it was just a really unnecessary ridiculous choice to make in my opinion. Doesnt ruin the series just has some flaws. Way fewer than most i might add.

Great job adding realistic family elements
I’m a huge, sci-fi fan. This series ties together great science fiction about artificial intelligence with raising a family on a space freighter ship. We see the relationship between the main character and the AI evolve symbiotically. Everything takes place in the Sol system. I really miss quality space sci-fi written from the 1990s through the early 2010s. Great job to the author and narrator
