About this listen

Addiction is a difficult and painful road, and to love an addict is to try and maneuver that road without ever having learned how to drive. For the codependent, loving an addict is going 100 miles an hour without a seatbelt. As loved ones of addicts, the more we can understand addiction and codependency and how the two impact each other in personal relationships, the better able we will be to recognize what we need to do, both for ourselves and for the addicts in our lives.

This book helped me so much. Miss Costa’s writing and transparency in telling her experiences with loving an addict creates a personal experience filled with grief and compassion, patience and transformation. When you can’t save someone you love, it may be time to save yourself.

An intimate story of loving an alcoholic.

There are so many different ways in which this book excels: Costa manages to establish and maintain a down-to-earth, no bones voice while having simultaneously met the professionalism and expertise of a writer with much more actual writing experience....and at the same time let's address the other elephant in the room - her amazing dark horse narrator Rachel Fulginiti (I'm shocked I've never heard of her before) - these two have created a wonderful piece together and the openness and honesty by which it was written will surely go a long way towards it helping others identify codependent/enabling behaviors and empower them to reach out for help if maybe they hadn't before- help them reclaim their voice and finally change those unhealthy behaviors and ultimately realize their true worth. This is a refreshing deep dive that clearly comes from an intense personal experience and I applaud her for her bravery in laying it all out there in order to help others. The world sorely needs more like her! An excellent book I highly recommend! Thank you!

Exceeded my expectations - a thoughtful & honest exploration of a painful life experience

It drags along. Very hard to listen to. Repetitive information. I couldn’t get through the first 2 chapters. Returned it.
