About this listen
Three young heirs, imprisoned by an unscrupulous uncle, escaped - to the sea, to the streets, to faraway battle - awaiting the day when they would return to reclaim their birthright....
Lord Rafe Easton may be of noble blood, but survival taught him to rely only on himself and to love no one. Yet when he sets eyes on Miss Evelyn Chambers, an earl's illegitimate daughter, he is determined to have her, if only as his mistress....
After her father's death, Evelyn Chambers never imagined she would be sold to the highest bidder, yet circumstances give her little choice but to accept the lord's indecent proposal. Rafe is wealthy, as well as ruthless. Yet his coldness belies deep passion and deeper secrets. If she must be his, Evelyn intends to lay bare everything the Lord of Pembrook is hiding. But dark discoveries threaten to destroy them both until unexpected love leads the last lost lord home....

The Best Yet!
I've read or listened to most of Lorraine Heath's books and this one was the best yet. It's 2am, and I stayed up this late to finish the book. I'm taking a few minutes now to write a review because the book is that good.
The story was believable, the characters were people I instantly wanted to know more about. I cared about them. That's how I recognize the mark of great writing.
I can't say enough good things about Faye Adele's performance as narrator. And it was truly a superb performance. I'm going to actively search out more narrations by her.

Sigh...I hate that it is over...
I listened to this title in one day...yep all the way through.
The story is just so well told, engaging, complicated, heartbreaking, captivating, beautiful. There really aren't enough adjectives to describe this. Truly, romance at it's very best.
Lorraine Heath is a talanted story teller and the narrator again gives life to these haunting characters. I only hate that there weren't four, five, six..or ten Lost Lord's of Pembroke to come home. You want to hate these callused Lords, but can't help but feel for the pain they endured growing up. I have read some novels where the author way over does it on the tortured hero mark, but Lorraine Heath found the perfect balance in these tales.
This story gives meaning to the reasons why I read historical romance. If she writes more like this one...I will download without hesitation.

The Lost Lords of Pembroke
I was hoping that each book would be better than the last that I listened to. All 3 were very melancholy. Which made me feel the same. The heroines were all strong women. The heros had issues, so did the heroines. Imo, this trilogy wasn't Ms Heath's best work.
This was my first time listening to the narrator. She did ok. I have heard better narrators and I have heard worse. My suggestion is for you to listen to the preview and read the audible books summary and make up your own mind. Or as Eve says "flip a coin". Enjoy 😊

I'd say she did a really good job with this book and would look out for her in the future.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Unconventional love.
Any additional comments?
This is what one calls a page turner. Listened to it in one go could not put it down.

Rafe is so swoon worthy
I would love to meet a Lord Rafe Easton someday. He is a man with a dark and not so happy past who happens to fall in love with women who was created through sin.
They are the perfect pair; both with a past and both not really believing that they deserve a happy future. After he purchases her as his mistress, he realizes that she is innocent in more ways than one and that innocence is what allows him to fall for her and allows her to heal him. She sees the strength and honor of a man that most only fear or look down on. Her ability to see the good allows her save him from certain death and allows him to realize his love for her.
This is one of my favorite books and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a tortured hero, a sweet heroine, passion, love, and ultimately a family being reunited. A 10🌟 read.

Really Disliked the Narrator
I seldom write reviews, but I would strongly urge listeners to Lorraine Heath's three "Pembrook" books, read by Faye Adele, to purchase hard copies of the books rather than listen to the audio versions. Ms. Adele, unless she's speaking dialogue, almost whispers her narration. I often had to adjust the volume on my device because her voice sometimes got so soft and low that it sounded like gravel. The sound quality of all three books in this series was pretty bad -- I had the treble turned all the way up on my device, and the bass turned off in order to listen to Ms. Adele's narration. Perhaps she was too far away from her microphone, as she sounded muffled as well as too whispery. Changing devices and re-downloading didn't help. I will avoid all books narrated by Faye Adele in the future.
I did stick it out with Faye Adele through the three books in the Pembrook series. The stories were very enjoyable, as is usual for Lorraine Heath. Ms. Heath continues to be my favorite author of this genre.

Great Series
I enjoyed each one of these books! They were as different as the brothers and so sad, in the manor each had suffered. Each one of their lives were different but we’re believable characters.
