A Regency Rogue Scandal in the Making

I loved this book! I really enjoy stories of romance between people of two different classes trying to make it work, although in this case they really weren't. Honesty goes a long way and would have cleared the way much earlier but the story wouldn't have been very exciting! As it happened a Bow Street Runner and a Baron's daughter turned school head mistress provide a very entertaining tale. The narration is very well done and kept the story running smoothly. I highly recommend this Regency Rogue adventure.

Great Story

Inspector Simon Spaulding believes that laws were not meant to be broken, not even bent. Those who break the laws need to be caught and punished. His current mission is to catch the Thief of Mayfair, a thief with a specific clientele and a strange twist to the crimes.

Dahlia Grenville is the second daughter to a Baron and the headmistress of the St. Giles School for girls. She desperately wants to keep the school open to give the girls skills for a chance at a better life. She has on occasion resorted to drastic measures to secure funds for the school.

This is a great story. You will laugh, need a tissue, and roll your eyes. It flows along smoothly until one hold-your-breath moment near the end, and then…I can’t tell, it would spoil it. The characters are likeable from the beginning, and we get to see them grow all through the story. Simon, Dahlia, the girls and those around them get lessons in how to trust, forgive, and love each other.

Marion Hussey’s narration is wonderful. She does a good job with the characters voices; they really come to life. She uses that same talent to take the listener from scene to scene and through the “moods” of the story.

Another great book in the Rogues to Riches series

Would you listen to Lord of Night again? Why?

I would definitely listen to the book again. I really do love all the characters.

What did you like best about this story?

We get a different kind of hero. Simon is not a titled lord, he is not a rogue, and he is not rich.

Which scene was your favorite?

It's the scene where our h runs through the Rookies, not afraid of her own life, to save a girl.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I loved the way the inspector went from black-and-white duty-only to a loving and caring human.

Unique among Regencies

What a terrific yarn! A heroine with a huge heart. A narrow-minded cop whom the reader has the pleasure of watching open his outlook to a whole new world. And a narrator whose only flaw is the repeated mispronunciation of the words “demur,” “demurred,” and “demurring.” It could be worse.

Highly recommended

The Lord of Night is Simon Spaulding, a Bow Street Runner. He only sees situations in black or white. For him, there are no shades of grey so when he discovers who is steeling from the rich will he be able to close his eyes and look the other way?
In the meantime, he and Dahlia Grenville, a young debutante, have fallen for each other. She runs a home for young ladies who have nowhere else to live.
This is their story and it is written by Erica Ridley as only she can write it, with love and compassion, a little bit of mystery and a whole load of entertainment and the narrator, Marion Hussey does a really splendid narration. I am quite happy to highly recommend it as a great read and listen.

Hero to Heroine

I agree wholeheartedly with the other reviews.The story is about how love and trust can change people for the better.There was laughter and some
tears.The narration was very well done-it pulled me into the story.
I can't wait to listen to Simon's brother story.

Felt like stepping into a Jane Austen novel!

Lord of Night felt like stepping into a Jane Austen novel. From the charming characters to the addictive dialogue and the heartwarming lessons delivered along the way. Ms. Ridley knows how to capture heart and grab attention all in one sitting. Dahlia is the kind of character I like to see. She listens to her heart and never lets fear factor into her choices. Humanity as a whole could learn a lesson from this woman. Simon is the perfect antagonist to Dahlia. He lives by the rules. When he meets Dahlia, Simon begins to question everything he is. They have much to teach each other about love, risk and optimism. The fearless Dahlia and the by the book Simon may just have met their match in each other. I have had the pleasure of experiencing this brave tale of hope and courage as an ebook and a audio book. The ebook inspires, but the audio version brings the story to life. Ms. Hussey gives personality to an already memorable set of characters.

Loved, loved, loved it

Dahlia’s life long mission is to open a school for girls. The girls are from the streets of St Giles; no more than street urchins, but Dahlia sees young girls who only need a chance at life and will do anything to keep the school afloat. The knight in shining armor is Simon, a police inspector. Amid a dilapidated school and 24 young girls, Simon and Dahlia fall in love. But can love save them from Dahlia’s secret life?

What would you do for love

I loved this heartfelt story Dahlia who comes from a wealthy family but chooses to use her money ro.run a girls school for orphans in order to keep them off the streets. She even goes far as stealing to feed them. Then she falls in love with the detective on the case of the thief. This wonderful story shows you the bounds to be surpassed for the ones you love. The narrator was great. I received a complimentary audio and I am voluntarily reviewing.
