About this listen
Wanderer Universe (stand-alone story)
An ancient, unsolved mystery. Everyone wants to survive. Everyone wants answers.
The Outer Layer is an enigma to its residents. Representatives from countless races and civilizations wander the many territories, hoping to unlock the secrets and progress further into its depths.
An anomaly has been detected in space by an artefact from an extinct civilization. Ciqalo, a machine intelligence from the Wanderer civilization, is tasked with investigating and weaponizing the anomaly for a galactic war.
Tolren, playmate to the heirs of a powerful Roranian family, becomes a hunted fugitive. He finds himself thrust into a dangerous adventure aboard a structure in space that defies understanding. What’s more, he’s not alone. Seremend, a fellow Roranian, has also been ensnared.
Why have they all been chosen?
A stand-alone novel from the Wanderer Universe.
Cerebral sci-fi with an emphasis on the "Sci". If you enjoy hard sci-fi, complex space opera, and authors such as Iain M. Banks, Alastair Reynolds, and Dan Simmons, then this is for you.

Story
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

Story
For generations, a sentient AI watched over the world, solving all of humanity’s problems. It was an era of objectivity, social equality, and ecological recovery. It should have been a golden age. Now, three strangers are on a pilgrimage through the arid, lonely sagelands and underpopulated cities of the Systemic era to the seemingly innocuous town of Prower. There, they'll uncover the secrets that lay buried beneath the town and learn the truth about their half-remembered pasts. In the end, they'll choose between their sanity or solving humanity’s final, most intractable problem.

Quite the ride I liked it
This book felt like a mix between maze runner, interstellar, sphere and a touch of star trek. Definitely worth checking out. The only thing I really didn't like was the beginning there were a lot of things happening and it was bouncing between 2-3 different stories which made it a little hard to follow along but by the quarter mark you're put in the present and things start to make more sense and easier to follow. By the end of the book it all ties together.

Good buildup to the great finale.
I found this book a bit confusing at times, which you’ll understand why as you progress. It’s a bit difficult to describe this book without spoilers, but the closest resemblance to another story is Interstellar. Don’t get me wrong, they are actually nothing alike except for the slow buildup and a great reveal at the end and of course the sci-fi theme.
The narrator did a great job with this book, good narration with just the right amount of dramatization and good voice acting. The only thing I found a little annoying at first was that I got the impression that the book was recorded in a kitchen or something alike. Not sure if the narrator moved location or got better recording equipment but further on I didn’t notice it anymore, maybe I just got used to it.
Overall I enjoyed the story and the narration.

Stick with it, it'll pay off in the end
I was given a review code for this book and having not listened to Gil's World I wasn't sure what to expect. Well I didn't care much for the first two hours I did end up thoroughly enjoying the rest. The start of the book served it's purpose later on so I'll probably end up listening to this again in the future to see what I missed due to the initial lack of interest.
If the book was longer I'd definitely check out Gil's World but I'm a miser with my credits so I'll throw it on my wish list in case it shows up in a sale some day.

A Haunting Quest
This is an amazing mind twisting stand alone story in the Wanderer universe. Beautifully narrated and interpreted by The Voice of Nick. I really enjoyed the way the threads of this story came together. The protagonists looking to understand why they were chosen, the different species each on their own path, the copies searching for The Original, and the terrifying Tracker all intertwined and internally consistent. Who is friend and who is foe? If you enjoy Ian M Banks Culture series, I'm sure you will love this story.

Entertaining story
Long Paradise: Wanderer Universe was one of the first audiobooks I wanted to stop listening to for the first quarter of the book. The story seemed to be told in a fairly confusing way. However, at about the third of the way point things became clear and once I understood why the author had built the narrative this way the story took hold and I settled in for a very enjoyable story. If you enjoy science fiction stories that challenge you as a reader, grab a copy and see what you think. Narration by The Voice of Nick really brought the characters and story to life. I received a review copy through StoryOrigion and chose to provide this review.

An interesting adventure
This was my first exposure to the Wanderer Universe and I was quite intrigued. It’s definitely hardcore sci-go, and that’s exactly what I was looking for.
James Murdo is very creative with his characters and storyline. I also found his writing to be very descriptive.
The narration, by The Voice of Nick, was very well done. I thought his style worked well for this story.
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Unique and interesting scifi story
The parts of this novel I enjoyed included the early interactions with Trict and her family as they pressure her to have a medical implant. The arguments and debates are well done and the outcome is both understandable and heartbreaking. Another favored part of the book is when Tolren and Seremend are trapped in a space station. Both characters interact well, questioning one another and exploring their surroundings in a way that helps the world building of the story to great effect.
Although this is a standalone novel, there are references to many things that are not easily clarified. Those who have read the rest of the series may understand the entirety of the story more than those who have not. Overall, Long Paradise is an interesting scifi book. The unique non-linear story provides mysteries, challenges and an array of strange characters and unexpected dangers.
