About this listen
Cynthia Yanof knows how sloppy, slippery, and downright hard life can be. But as she reminds us through her laugh-out-loud stories and heartfelt companionship, God’s not surprised when we drop the ball, lose our cool, or struggle to put our Spanx on in the morning. He can use our ridiculous messes and even the really difficult I-didn’t-sign-up-for-this losses to shape us.
In Life Is Messy, God Is Good, Cynthia invites us to reframe our perspective on the challenges we face so we can see God at work—and laugh more along the way. Join her in discovering how:
- We can be faithful to God’s purposes right where we are—baseball carpool, dog groomer, and even chaperoning the dreaded zoo field trip.
- We come to realize one of life’s greatest blessings is a handful of crazy, godly friends (who aren’t afraid to tell you to retire your outfit).
- When we let go of who the world says we should be, we are free to become who God created us to be.
Whether you are navigating a difficult new season, working late on another deadline, or simply horrified that your morning routine now includes plucking chin hair, Life Is Messy, God Is Good offers an encouraging and hilarious reminder that God is at work in you—even in the mess.

Story
We are constantly being formed by the world around us. To be formed by Jesus will require us to become his apprentice. To live by what the first Christian disciples called a Rule of Life—a set of practices and relational rhythms that slow us down and open up space in our daily lives for God to do what only God can do—transforms the deepest parts of us to become like him. This introduction to spiritual formation is full of John Mark Comer’s trademark mix of theological substance and cultural insight as well as practical wisdom on developing your own Rule of Life.

"Who am I becoming?" That was the question nagging pastor and author John Mark Comer. Outwardly, he appeared successful. But inwardly, things weren’t pretty. So, he turned to a trusted mentor for guidance and heard these words: "Ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life." It wasn’t the response he expected, but it was - and continues to be - the answer he needs. Within this audiobook, you’ll find a fascinating road map to staying emotionally healthy and spiritually alive in the chaos of the modern world.

Made me laugh and think
The author did a great job sharing stories from her life as illustrations for larger points. It is chockful of wisdom that is delivered in humor. I rarely laugh out loud while listening to an audiobook, but I did with this one. The author reads it herself, which adds to the joy of listening. For those who have ever looked at their spiritual journey and pondered where it was going, there is something in this book that will likely speak to your heart.

Perfect title
This book hit all the points. A friend and myself were reading at the same time and it hit our lives differently but the same. When I picked this book didn’t even know the foster care aspect. As a foster parent all I can say is I felt and feel all of those words. She does a wonderful job articulating life and bringing Jesus to the front.

Laughing along the whole way!
I loved the way Cynthia tells her story throughout this book, she is so hilarious and I can see in my minds eye exactly what she’s describing as she is setting the scene.
Her love and understanding of Jesus is so amazing, and she helps others to feel his love without being intimidated.

A light hearted spiritual listen with much needed laughs
This book was a good listen. The author is easy to listen to and I’m so glad she chose to narrate herself. The humor in this book is therapy in itself. A wonderful laugh out loud, lighthearted, fill your cup sort of book.

I LOVED this book
This book was an absolute masterpiece, left me both laughing uncontrollably and deeply moved with compassion—sometimes within the span of just a few pages. I didn’t really expect to feel so many emotions, but the author’s balance humor with heartfelt, raw moments had me hooked from the very beginning. There were times I was laughing so hard that tears rolled down my face, only to find myself reflecting on the depth of life’s challenges in the very next chapter. Highly, highly, highly reccomend.
