About this listen
A Romantic Tragicomedy of Faith, Family, and Folly
Ross, twenty-three, isn’t nearly as clever as he thinks he is. His brilliant idea to break up with his girlfriend, Lora Liamant, in an attempt to show her how terrible other men are and how empty life would be without him, has backfired spectacularly. Within weeks, he discovers she’s moved on with the brother of a famous network TV actor. In the midst of his heartbreak, Ross’s parents die tragically—in a helicopter crash at an all-inclusive resort in Turks and Caicos—leaving him with millions of dollars and custody over his teenage sister.
Traumatized, ruminating, and rich, Ross plots scheme after scheme to show Lora he’s changed into a responsible adult, even as she shows no indication of wanting that. Everything he does seems to make matters worse, as his misguided mission of self-transformation only leads to Lora’s confusion and dismay.
Let Me Try Again is an electric picaresque charting a young Jewish man’s spiral of neurotic pride and self-improvement within a culture that only caters to his worst impulses. Brimming with vitality and crackling with wit, Matthew Davis’s dynamic debut illuminates the absurdities of twenty-first-century life with ecstatic flair.

Laugh-Out-Loud Funny with 5 Star Narration
Let Me Try Again by Matthew Davis is one of the funniest books I’ve read in my entire life, and the narration by Christian Leatherman only enhances the story. He brings unique life to each of the characters and hits all the comedic beats perfectly with the ability to make even the smallest sentences pack a punch. Leatherman makes it impossible not to get sucked in from page (or minute) one.
The story is expertly crafted, each sentence is a setup for the next laugh-out-loud moment. The story follows Ross, a 20-something guy who starts off smug and unlikable, somehow becomes even more annoying, and yet ultimately transforms into someone we can root for. By the end, I was genuinely cheering for him to succeed.
If you’re a fan of Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, or a millennial looking for a hilarious read that hits close to home, this book is for you. The references are spot-on, and the fast-paced story grabs you from the first chapter, never letting go. It’s a wild ride from start to finish, and once you’re hooked, there’s no turning back. 5 Stars all around.

Entertaining AND Though Provoking.
Creative writing and a great reader. It might not be for everyone, but I enjoyed the entire work. Heard about it from The Red Scare podcast.
