About this listen
Trapped in the Sierra Nevada without food, the Donner Party are led to the slaughter. After being manipulated and coerced into a string of bad decisions, the travelers, frozen and abandoned, find themselves unable to go forward or back and are preyed upon by werewolves in their midst - the very people they thought were friends.
As the creatures grow hungry and desperate, a showdown is born between the people struggling to retain their humanity, and the creatures seeking a massacre.
In this tale of resilience, horror, and betrayal, the survivors of the expedition are hunted. But the human spirit endures. Told from the diaries of young Virginia Reed and others in the party, the truth is finally revealed.

Story
In late October 1846, the last wagon train of that year's westward migration stopped overnight before resuming its arduous climb over the Sierra Nevada Mountains, unaware that a fearsome storm was gathering force. After months of grueling travel, the 81 men, women and children would be trapped for a brutal winter with little food and only primitive shelter. The conclusion is known: by spring of the next year, the Donner Party was synonymous with the most harrowing extremes of human survival.

Story
From humble beginnings in rural Tennessee to his heroic death defending the Alamo, frontiersman, adventurer, and politician David Davy Crockett embodies the spirit and ideals of the national character. Even during his lifetime, tales of the sharpshooting, skilled woodsman were - to his delight - told, retold, and elaborated on. As a US congressman, the former Creek War militiaman steadfastly opposed President Andrew Jackson's Indian Removal Act.

Story
Thirty thousand years ago, ice was storming the planet. Among the species forced out of the trees and onto the steppes by the advancing cold was modern man, who was both predator and prey. No stranger to the experiences that make us human - a mother's love and a father's betrayal, tribal war and increasing famine, political intrigue and forbidden love, joy and hope and devastating loss - our ancestors competed for scant resources in a brutal landscape.

Critic reviews
"Duncan McGeary is an accomplished writer who knows how to tell a great story. Led to the Slaughter is a riveting tale sure to please the most discerning reader." (Mike Richardson, Emmy Award-winning producer and founder of Dark Horse Comics)
"If you like your history with a sprinkling of killer lycanthropes, have I got a book for you. Duncan McGeary's new novel, Led to the Slaughter: The Donner Party Werewolves, offers an alternate explanation for the cannibalism in the Donner Party, and is a welcome addition to the ranks of alternative histories."
