About this listen
What is it about King Arthur that still holds our attention 1,500 years after he first materialized from the murky depths of history and legend?
Named one of America's best professors by the Princeton Review, Christopher R. Fee transports you through space and time in search of answers. In his insightful audio course, you will trace Arthur's path across Britain. You'll visit such iconic sites as Tintagel, Glastonbury, and Stonehenge in search of physical reminders of this legendary king, his court, and a mighty stronghold remembered through the mists of time as "Camelot". Traveling across literary and literal landscapes, you'll search for evidence for Arthur in ancient manuscripts and modern-day archaeological excavations.
Through 24 energetic lectures, you will see how much Arthur has been refashioned for succeeding generations of audiences - first in Wales, Cornwall, Brittany, and England, and later across the globe. Like the Knights of the Round Table on their epic quest for the Holy Grail, you will scour recorded history for the true face of the "Once and Future King". Last, you'll consider the most popular of the countless books and movies dedicated to King Arthur, his court, and their adventures.
As you explore the unwavering interest in Arthur across centuries of popular culture, you will learn to look behind the façade of all things Arthurian - discerning the factual basis for the man, the myths, and the legends.
This course is part of the Learn25 collection and includes a free PDF study guide.

Story
Not since the Civil War had the American national consciousness been as strained as it was by the conflict in Southeast Asia. Indeed, the controversies that the Vietnam War spurred on the home front are more familiar to many Americans than the policies and motives that guided the conflict. The History of the Vietnam War fills that gap. From a distance of 50 years, you will reexamine the war and its lessons. Throughout, Prof. Brigham sheds light on the United States and its place in the world today.

Story
World War II was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945, involving the majority of the world's countries—including all of the great powers—forming two opposing military alliances. The major participants threw their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities into the war effort. It was by far the deadliest conflict in human history, resulting in 70 to 85 million fatalities, due to actual battles as well as genocides (the Holocaust), starvation, massacres, and disease.

Story
Alexander the Great (ca. 356-323 BCE) was a Macedonian general who brought Greek civilization to the edge of modern-day India. After studying the Iliad, he believed himself to be Achilles reincarnated, imitating the hero of the epic poem in his own military campaigns. Even before he died barely into his 30s, the legends surrounding him were larger than life. In this compelling new audio course, you’ll explore the history and lore surrounding this real man and mythic figure, often by consulting the ancient sources themselves.

Critic reviews
“Chris Fee is one of the best teachers I’ve ever met. His knowledge of the Middle Ages, and of the Vikings, is exhaustive. I have learned so much from him, and I know all of the listeners will too.” (Dr. Joshua Eyler, director of the Center for Teaching Excellence and adjunct associate professor of humanities at Rice University)
“Chris Fee is a tremendously engaging speaker - energetic, organized, and clear. As his students and colleagues in the academy know, Fee is deeply learned, but he wears his learning lightly. You couldn’t ask for a better guide to the ancient world of Northern Europe.” (Stephen Harris, PhD, professor of English at the University of Massachusetts Amherst)

Outstanding audio course!
I have listened to and enjoyed several of Chris Fee's audio courses by Learn25. While his series on the vikings remains my personal favorite, this series on King Arthur is a close second. Fee is a master story teller and scholar who is able to weave legend with history to make myth accessible & meaningful. We've all enjoyed the King Arthur stories. This course will help spark your interest anew. A real joy.
