About this listen
Jules Verne's unforgettable adventure tale Journey to the Center of the Earth takes on new life in this special edition.
In the midst of examining an ancient Icelandic manuscript, professor and mineralogist Otto Liedenbrock and his nephew Axel make an astonishing discovery. A secret parchment lies hidden in the pages, and on it a puzzling message in code: Descend, bold traveler, into the crater of the jokul of Sneffels...
Thus begins a thrilling scientific quest that takes the professor and Axel from Hamburg to Iceland, down a volcanic crater, and deep into the center of the earth - where they uncover a breathtaking subterranean world unlike anything they ever imagined.

Story
Initially published in 1863, Five Weeks in a Balloon was the first novel in what would become the author's Extraordinary Voyages series. It tells the tale of a 4,000-mile balloon trip over the mysterious continent of Africa, a trip that wouldn't actually take place until well into the next century. Fusing adventure, comedy, and science fiction, Five Weeks has all the key ingredients of classic Verne: sly humor and cheeky characters, an innovative scientific invention, a tangled plot that's full of suspense and surprise, and visions of an unknown realm.

One of Heinlein's best-loved works, The Rolling Stones follows the rollicking adventures of the Stone family as they tour the solar system. It doesn't seem likely for twins to have the same middle name. Even so, it's clear that Castor and Pollux Stone both have "Trouble" written in that spot on their birth certificates. Of course, anyone who's met their grandmother Hazel would know they came by it honestly.

Story
Around the World in 80 Days is an adventure novel by the French writer Jules Verne, first published in French in 1872. A classic adventure story about the incredible journey of the gentleman Phileas Fogg and his servant-companion Passepartout. Phileas Fogg, who was a member of a respectable London club, had a bet with one of its members. The essence of the bet was to cross the globe in 80 days, that is, to start and end the journey in London at a certain time. Phileas Fogg made accurate calculations and was sure that traveling around the world in 80 days is a reality.

Story
The War of the Rebellion is over, and the members of the American Gun Club, bored with inactivity, look around for a new project. At last they have it: "We will build the greatest projectile the world has ever seen and make the moon our 38th state!" When From the Earth to the Moon was published in 1865, it was regarded as pure fantasy. Who could imagine a rocket that would carry men and animals through space?

The extreme details that no movie was worthy of.
I felt the nephew whined to much, like a child. However, I liked how the Icelanders role was cast.

Classic Book but no Modern Adventure
This book was great. I enjoyed it fully and Derek Perkins narrated it very well. My only regret was the quickness in its conclusion. For me at least, but it was worth listening to and I’m glad I did.

What lies beneath....
Fantastic underground adventure. Wonderful reader. Chapters are short so you want to keep listening. (Just one more chapter... You'll say that a lot!) This is a fine presentation of a solid classic. Absolutely worth the $ or credit.

Brief review
An excellent classic science fiction adventure focusing on the journey traveled by the main character both through the mantle with his uncle, but also the journey through himself from elation to despair.

Center of Earth
It was interesting to review what science fiction was like over 150 years ago. The formal writing style is a bit different. In this era of computer generated animation to visualize in your mind what Mr. Verne has written about this is fascinating.
