About this listen
EXPERIENCE THE PASSION WEEK
Having grown up in the impoverished lower city of Jerusalem, Shamira is no stranger to injustice at the hands of the Pharisees and Sadducees. Her family is shunned by many in the Jewish community who believe that their misfortune in life is the result of a secret sin. Rumors are spreading of a nearby healer with incredible abilities; if the stories are true, then the Messiah may be near, and Shamira will stop at nothing in the pursuit of a miracle.
Asa spends every day at the temple under the tutelage of his strict father, an elite Levite priest who enforces the laws without mercy. Between the growing demands of the Roman government and the threats of the Zealots, tensions are high. When Shamira, the girl who stole his heart years ago, asks him to help her find the healer called Jesus, he must choose to either follow in his father’s footsteps or forge his own path.
Shamira knows that both her life and the lives of her loved ones could be changed forever, but only if she can find a way to speak to the man called Jesus of Nazareth before it's too late.

EXPERIENCE THE EARLY CHURCH. Forced from her home after the stoning of Stephen and persecution of believers in Jerusalem, Libi and her family now live in the city of Antioch. Days pass quickly in a community where the oppressed are in great need, and Libi finds every opportunity to serve alongside other believers despite growing obstacles and a lack of resources. All of this leaves little time to think about what she has lost, or the growing desire in her heart for what she does not have. If you love the TV series, THE CHOSEN, you'll love THRONES IN THE DESERT. THRONES IN THE DESERT does what no Biblical novel has done before. It weaves the story of five fictional characters through twelve chapters, with each chapter corresponding to the first twelve chapters of the Book of Luke. The five main characters--a tax collector, a slave, a guard in Herod's Palace, a Pharisee, and the daughter of a Zealot--have all placed a false god on a throne in their life, only to see it overturned by the rabbi from Nazareth. "He has brought down rulers from their thrones. He has lifted up the ...

Story
Like most young women in ancient Israel, Mary has little control over her own destiny. When Enos, a rising Pharisee, sees her one day in the market―the most beautiful woman he has ever laid eyes on―and determines to make her his wife, Mary’s fate is quickly sealed. His exorbitant bride price is the only hope her parents have of escaping abject poverty, but surely the fact that such a devout and esteemed man has chosen a girl of her station must be a sign of blessing.

Great Biblical Fiction
This was a very good book. I loved the story line and the way so many parts of scripture were woven into the characters’ lives. A real depiction of how the believers in Jesus must’ve felt when He was beaten and crucified; and how the new church in Jerusalem began. The narration was tolerable but not nearly as enjoyable as a real person’s voice. Some I’ve tried I just quit at the beginning. I listened to the entire book, so maybe the fake voices are getting better. Sad though, just another way to put real people out of a job.

Famtastic Book
I read the Publisher's review. But the review didn't do this book justice. This is the story of a family who lived during the time of Jesus. As a cultural expose, the writing is very informative. The several families have members who are more difficult and those members who are easier to get along with. Some of the characters are more difficult than others while others are more encouraging. Much as is today. How the families react to the public discourse of Jesus is most interesting.
Although I am not a fan of virtual voice, it was not too challenging to discern what the author was trying to say.

The computer generated narrative was an improvement over other of her books, but still strange to listen to. The emphasis or lack there of instrange places. But I did finish this book where as I couldn’t other ones that were computer generated.
