About this listen
A novel set in Judaea in the final months before the fall of Jerusalem in the year 70 AD. The story starts at the very beginning, so to speak, with symbolic allusions to the Garden of Eden and the fall of man. Thenceforth, the protagonist of the story, Epiphanius, is distraught after receiving a vision of the destruction of the Jerusalem. He later learns of his brother’s departure for the city before he has chance to warn him. It thus becomes his mission to go to Jerusalem and to find his brother.
During his sojourn in Jerusalem, Epiphanius finds employment as an artisan with the House of Tzedek who abide within the precincts of the Hasmonean Palace. He finds a city inhabited by a proud and avaricious people beset by internal strife. The more he learns of the House of Tzedek, the more he finds them to his distaste.
In the search for his brother, Epiphanius comes across a mysterious compendium that resonates with his soul. The book, called ‘The Quest of the Sage,’ contains extracts of esoteric lore and prophesies regarding the apocalypse. With this book, he indoctrinates himself into the mysteries of the arcane.
He soon comes to the realisation that mysterious forces are at play. The search for his brother is merely a ruse to bring him to the city. His true mission is to act as a harbinger of warning to save but a few who would heed God’s message and be saved from a terrible fate.
