About this listen

A quiet, wealthy plantation owner, Jack Hinson watched the start of the Civil War with disinterest. Opposed to secession and a friend to Union and Confederate commanders alike, he did not want a war. After Union soldiers seized and murdered his sons, placing their decapitated heads on the gateposts of his estate, Hinson could remain indifferent no longer. He commissioned a special rifle for long-range accuracy, he took to the woods, and he set out for revenge.

This remarkable biography presents the story of Jack Hinson, a lone Confederate sniper who, at the age of 57, waged a personal war on Grant's army and navy. The result of 15 years of scholarship, this meticulously researched work is the only account of Hinson's life ever recorded and involves an unbelievable cast of characters, including the Earp brothers, Jesse James, and Nathan Bedford Forrest.

Loved it.

Great story about a little known historical figure that deserves to be brought out into the light.

Strong Research

This book is a little slow to listen to, but gives strong well researched facts about the War of Northern Aggression . A very interesting listen unless you're into the politically correct one sided spoonfed history lessons that our kids are being taught today.

Admiration for Jack Hinson and his family

An inspiring story that all patriotic Americans should know and a cautionary story of what brave men are capable of when pushed too far by a corrupt and callous government......perhaps like the one that claims to represent us now(?).

Interesting and informative from start to finish. Well researched and we'll written. Great to hear a book untainted by political correctness.

Awe inspiring

ABSOLUTELY captivating. What happens when a peace loving man is betrayed and his family harmed. Hell hath no fury.

Overall, really, really good

I read several reviews condemning the in depth historical aspects of the book. If you read the information regarding the book, it is pointed out that the book is a work of history. The historical background is much needed to round out the story so be patient and enjoy. I assure you, you will learn something you did not know and the base story itself is as great as it is tragic. To bring the book to life more for you, I suggest that as the area is laid out, get a map and look at where it all took place. That will help you to see it all in your mind as the events unfold.

Great story!

I thoroughly enjoyed this story, I had not heard of this man and its a very interesting book about a reluctant warrior. The reading skips in a few places and thats why not 5 stars. This book also tells the history of that time period as It was taught to me by my elders. Not the current revisionist version. I appreciate that.

Educational

I hadn’t heard of Jack Hinson until listening to this book. It was informative and educational. Being a Yankee by birth and southern by grace of God I think the story was a bit slanted in favor of the south but not a lot.
I enjoyed the story very much.

Vengeance

Know your enemy before taking the field against him. The first rule of the Art of War. The Union didn't know the beast they had awoken until it was too late. And it took a terrible toll for that failure. And rightly so.
