メンチカツは明治時代に東京の洋食店が考案したとも、昭和時代に兵庫県の精肉店が考案したともいわれています。
「ミンスミートカツレツ」が省略されたうえ、「ミンス(ひき肉/ひき肉にする)」が「メンチ」となり、メンチカツとなったとの説がありますが、確かなことはわかりません。
ソースをかけて食べるのが、メンチカツの基本。ご飯のおかずとして食べるほか、サンドイッチなどパンにはさんで食べる場合もあります。
近年ではブランド豚の肉を使用した"高級メンチカツ"も多く、メンチカツを買い求める行列ができる店もあります。©2017 KODANSHA
