About this listen

Now significantly revised with over 70 percent new material, this is the authoritative audio presentation of Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, which is taught and practiced around the world.

IFS reveals how the subpersonalities or parts of each individual's psyche relate to each other like members of a family, and how - just as in a family - polarization among parts can lead to emotional suffering. IFS originator Richard Schwartz and master clinician Martha Sweezy explain core concepts and provide practical guidelines for implementing IFS with clients who are struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, addiction, and other behavioral problems. They also address strategies for treating families and couples. IFS therapy is listed in SAMHSA's National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices.

Internal Family Systems Therapyis deftly narrated by Brian Arens, a listener favorite.

Fantastic

Inspires me to look inside.

I learned about the inner parts, and it’s such big tool to take away. Now I will begin to practice and learn more about myself.

I have a client who often changes voices as they talked. They had been previously diagnosed with DID, which doesn’t really qualify. While working on my next level of licensure, my supervisor suggested I look into this therapy. I think it’s going to be great for my client and I look forward to learning more about this.

Great therapy book!

This book first appeared in my Spotify premium
recommendations, but with their limited hours I turned to Audible. After I finished “The Body Says No” by Gabor Maté, I turned to this book on IFS therapy.

It was confusing at first with the constant use of the word “parts” but the narrator does a good job of sounding vital, with some fluctuations in tone, which helps make the material easy to understand and not as overwhelming.

I’m an aspiring therapist and love learning about therapeutic methods and different parts of the psyche, etc. This system of “parts” is so Jungian coded and talking directly with the parts - aka aspects of the unconscious- reminds me a lot of Tara Brach’s RAIN method. But it is more accessible I think and gets straight to the point, which can be helpful. I applied IFS to myself and feel more integrated because of it, for which I’m grateful.

The cherry on top was Richard Schwartz’s analysis on the USA’s parts and how that affects individuals, and how’s it done so overtime. I really appreciate this because the individual has be seen in the context of the environment they live in. I especially appreciate the discussions on racism, sexism, and homophobia.

I can’t wait to get my license and go on to become certified in IFS. Such a wonderful strategy.

Engaging material & interesting therapy system

Such great work but also presented in a way that is easily understood. I feel everyone should read!

Necessary read

IFS is my theoretical approach to Counseling , so I am obviously biased. But of all IFS books out there, this one is no doubt a must read.

Mind blowing

Excellent and thorough resource for practitioners seeking IFS theory overview and application examples. Consider the book “No Bad Parts” for a more accessible intro/overview to the theory/practice (i.e. for non-practicing individuals interested in learning more.)

Complete IFS theory overview for practitioners.
