About this listen
Pastor Bryan Loritts dives deep into what it's like to be a person of color in predominantly white evangelical spaces today and where we can go from here.
God boldly proclaims throughout the Book of Acts that there is no "ethnic home team" when it comes to Christianity. But the minority experience in America today - and throughout history - too often tells a different story.
As Loritts writes, "It is impossible to do theology devoid of cultural lenses and expressions. Like an American unaware of their own accent, most whites are unaware of the ethnic theological accent they carry." Insider Outsider bears witness to the true stories that often go untold - stories that will startle, enlighten, and herald a brighter way forward for all seeking belonging in the family of God.
This seminal work on race and the church will help Christians discover:
- How they can learn the art of listening to stories unlike their own
- Identify the problems and pitfalls that keep Sunday morning the most segregated hour of the week
- And participate in an active movement with God toward a holy vision of what Dietrich Bonhoeffer calls "life together"
Drawing on insightful snapshots through history, eye-opening personal experiences, and biblical exposition, Loritts awakens both our minds and hearts to the painful reality of racial divides as well as the hope of forgiveness.

Best-selling author Jackie Hill Perry, in her much anticipated follow-up to Gay Girl, Good God, helps us find the reason we don’t trust God - we misunderstand his holiness. It is not an accident that racism is alive and well in the American church. Racism has, in fact, been taught within the church for so long most of us don’t even recognize it anymore. Pastor Albert Tate guides all of us in acknowledging the racism that keeps us from loving each other the way God intends and encourages siblings in Christ to sit together in racial discomfort, examining the role we may play in someone’s else’s struggle.

Crucifixion, the Romans believed, was the worst fate imaginable, a punishment reserved for slaves. How astonishing it was, then, that people should have come to believe that one particular victim of crucifixion - an obscure provincial by the name of Jesus - was to be worshipped as a god. Dominion explores the implications of this shocking conviction as they have reverberated throughout history.

How did the world arrive at its current, disorienting state of identity politics, and how should the church respond? Historian Carl R. Trueman discusses how influences ranging from traditional institutions to technology and pornography moved modern culture toward an era of "expressive individualism." Investigating philosophies from the Romantics, Nietzsche, Marx, Wilde, Freud, and the New Left, he outlines the history of Western thought to the distinctly sexual direction of present-day identity politics and explains the modern implications of these ideas.

Story
In an age where pleasing people, puffing up your ego and building your résumé are seen as the methods to "make it", the Apostle Paul calls us to find true rest in blessed self forgetfulness. In this short and punchy book, best selling author Timothy Keller, shows that gospel humility means we can stop connecting every experience, every conversation with ourselves and can thus be free from self condemnation. A truly gospel humble person is not a self-hating person or a self-loving person, but a self-forgetful person.

I recommend this book to anyone that desires to partake in the fulfillment of John 13:34-35. We are the walking signs and wonders that prove to ALL PEOPLE Christ is real by the way we love one another.
Very good and straight forward content that speaks to the disparity within our American Church culture. Much needed.

It has powerful stories and reminders to see people and empower them as Jesus did, to take action in our Christian walks, to cultivate relationships, and to not enter ethnic warfare.

An Invitation For Reconciliation
Reconciliation isn’t always a smooth road. In this book, Pastor Loritts shows us that there is work to be done in the body of Christ. For to long, the African American community have been invited to play in someone else’s game. But here you will see there an invitation for the other team to come and enjoy learning about their brothers in Christ. White evangelicalism has for too long eroded our country. Left unchecked it will continue to further the divide. I believe this a prophetic book that the church should read.
