About this listen
New Jersey prosecutor Sandy Moss is tired of petty criminals, and a new job at a glitzy Los Angeles law firm seems the perfect career move. Putting 3,000 miles between her and her ex-boyfriend is just an added bonus. But on Sandy's first morning as a family attorney, she inadvertently kills her new career stone dead when she offends her boss during a meeting with the firm's top celebrity client, charismatic TV star Patrick McNabb. But that's not as dead as Patrick's soon-to-be ex-wife is that evening when she's discovered shot by an arrow, her husband standing over her. Did Patrick really kill his wife in a dispute over a pair of shoes? All signs point to yes. But Patrick is determined to clear his name, using all the legal skills he's learned from playing a lawyer on TV, and to Sandy's deep dismay, she's the only person he'll let help him.

Mixed Jersey Feelings
Having spent most of my adult life in South Jersey, I am always intrigued by books set in the Garden State. I have mixed feelings about lawyer Sandy, who seemed entirely competent in professional situations while rather immature in personal relationships.
When Sandy meets actor Patrick, she is not impressed by his good looks or wealth, yet she is constantly insecure about her physical appearance. I don't even remember how she is described by the author, just how she keeps saying how she is NOT gorgeous or slim as a fashion model or actress.
Sandy and her BBF Angie keep finding themselves in humorous situations, with lots of references to being "Jersey Girls". Many of their insider jokes can only be appreciated by NJ residents of at least a decade.

Cozy legal thriller
This fits the “cozy” definition. Violence is threatened, but only minimally on the page. There wasn’t any sex, though there are relations referred to. There was no spicy language either. The case and characters were interesting and engaging. I would read more of the series.

Sandy Moss
Sandy Moss moves from New Jersey to LA and on her first day is sitting in on a divorce settlement when she witnesses an argument between the divorcing parties and says something that draws the attention of the husband, Patrick McNabb. When Patrick McNabb is arrested for murder, he demands that the law firm allow Sandy to represent him. How Sandy and Patrick navigate his defense, trial and find the real killer makes for a great story. A great new series by a wonderful writer.
