About this listen

Father Tim and Cynthia have been at home in Mitford for three years since returning from Whitecap Island.

In the little town that's home-away-from-home to millions of readers, life hums along as usual. Dooley looks toward his career as a vet; Joe Ivey and Fancy Skinner fight a haircut price war that takes no prisoners; and Percy steps out on a limb with a risky new menu item at the Main Street Grill.

Though Father Tim dislikes change, he dislikes retirement even more. As he and Cynthia gear up for a year-long ministry across the state line, a series of events sends shock waves through his faith, and the whole town of Mitford.

In her seventh novel in the best-selling Mitford Years series, Jan Karon delivers surprises of every kind, including the return of the man in the attic and an ending that no one in Mitford will ever forget.

Wonderful story of hope and grace mixed with humor. Endearing characters.

I don’t usually like audible books because I prefer to read. But John McDonough is so talented. His rendition of the characters is just spot on and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Jan Karen‘s books are an example of how to walk in God‘s love as followers of Christ. Very inspirational. Oh to live in Mitford with such endearing characters.

Heartwarming and inspirational

One of my favorite all-time series. Jan Karon has a remarkable gift of capturing life in small town USA along with presenting the richness of love and kindness poured out to others, through trials and joys. In addition she shows the faith, doubts, and ups and downs of living one’s faith out.

Great story audio garbled in a couple places

There was at least two places were the audio was so bad we had to go to the hard copy book to figure out what was said. I had it downloaded on my iPad and my iPhone. I checked the last garbled section on both devices. The same spot was garbled on both so it must be a problem with the master.

Abrupt ending

This is not the first book in this series that ends abruptly. And it's well into next book that you get a hint of the cliffhanger from previous book. Lots of repetition. I loved the first 3 in the series but now paying a lot for what is just a short story.

Unbelievably well done by both author and narrator

I, like so many others who have enjoyed this series, don’t want the end to ever come. Besides being entertained, laughing out loud, and retelling parts to my husband, I feel that my faith has been renewed more with this series than any other Christian fiction. Thank you both, John McDonough and Jan Karon for the many hours of joyful listening.

Always an inspirational treat!

Narration was stellar, as usual. Listening to the Father Tim sagas is like reuniting with a long lost friend - warming the heart. “Don’t you know?!” In the words of Uncle Billy …

Quality narration and content. Sound quality fails in last 1/3

Having listened to about 800 Audible offerings, I’ve grown accustomed to the flawless recordings. Something went wrong in this recording. At one point, I heard, “this is the end of disc 12.” 😳 Later, there was a distinct change in the sound quality.

Otherwise, John McDonough and Jan Karon deliver with perfection as always. Sometimes I almost am convinced that John McDonough IS Father Timothy Kavanaugh.

Great reading of a new classic

I've been a long time admirer of Jan Karon's Mitford series. I've read them several times. I am introducing the recorded versions to my husband who is enjoying them as much as I. We thoroughly enjoy the narration of John McDonough, especially when he sings the hymns and uses Father Tim's pulpit voice. These recordings bring a whole new dimension to the stories.
