Much Promise

I had looked forward to reading Iced for a long time. I loved the Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning and liked the character of Dani O'Malley. I think this new series has a lot of promise. However, I was somewhat disappointed in this book. I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars, actually. The story starts slowly. The characters are not very easy to relate to, not always likeable enough to invest in.

Dani O'Malley can actually be a fascinating character. In the Fever series she is a supporting character. In this book, told in first person, she is the protagonist. She is fourteen years with a defiant teenage attitude. She's having a difficult time adjusting to growing up. She doesn't understand the adults and immortals around her but mistakenly assumes she does. She lives in a post-armegeddon city in Ireland. There are three men who vie for her attention with a fourth man she considers her soulmate.

I appreciated the performances of the narrators. They were excellent. They also narrated in the Fever Series.

I also appreciate the new world and characters the author has created, especially enjoying reading about this world through the characters in the Fever series. I recall that the first book in that series also started out slow and built up to being a great series, therefore, I'm not giving up on her future Dani O'Malley books.

I am looking forward to the next book in this series hoping that this story and the characters and their relationships develop more completely. There is a lot of promise here.

Color Me Conflicted

I'm not sure how I feel about this book. I guess I feel the same sort of conflicted that I did with the Dark Fever series, but in a different way. I liked Dani more than I liked Mac. I always found Mac a bit fluffy and useless. Mac was more lucky than anything else and Barrons was the more interesting character. Now we have resourceful, strong and super fast Dani who is used to looking out for herself, but then, she also can't seem to keep herself out of trouble.

I wish Moning had made her a bit older. 14 is a bit young for a heroine in a non-YA novel surrounded by a bunch of immortals, particularly when half of the men in the book are pining after her like a bunch of horn dogs. We have Ryodan who is basically waiting for her to hit 18 before he jumps her bones while meanwhile, he's hooking up with anything else that moves. We've got Unseelie Prince in training, Christian, who makes no bones about how he feels about her, but who is also trying to control his urges for her until she's older. And then the more age appropriate and human Dancer who barely gets any time with her at all.

Throughout the book, I alternately loved and hated Dani. She was so (as she would say) fecking annoying and dense at times. But other times, she was sufficiently bad ass. I thought that the storyline with the Hoarfrost King was a bit weak and the book was too long, but overall, it was entertaining. And I'll admit - I will read the next one. I really want to see where Moning is going with Dani's storyline. I want to know why Ryodan is so obsessed with her. What happens to/with Christian. And I want to know more about Dancer, the fearless human among all of these scary immortals. There is clearly more to him than meets the eye. And I want to know which one she will ultimately end up with. It's weird - I like them all for entirely different reasons, and as of right now, I have absolutely no preference amongst them. I'm curious to see how they develop over the course of the next 2 planned books

Danni was my favorite character, because she's a young girl that has a lot of power, and seeing how seeing how she deals with it in the new world.

Dancer, Phil used the perfect voice for this character.

the FEVER world from Dan'is POV- pretty good

Another Slam Dunk

Dani, a favored character in the prior series enters into puberty all alone in a city destroyed from the walls falling and the demons running loose in her beloved city. Estranged from Mac, and still fighting the good fight against evil, Dani tries to protect her old friends and enemies, while negotiating feelings no 14 year old should have. Karen Marie has continued to hit a grand slam providing us with a new story line on her old story that leaves us waitting and wanting for more.

FECKING HILARIOUS!!!!

What did you like best about this story?

FECKING HILARIOUS!!!! Boy, that Dani is a character....Put her and Ryodan together and I just about laughed until I cried. I was so sad when the Fever Series ended and I was not to interested in given this one a chance because I assumed that it would be to adolescent for me when I found out that the series was featured around Dani. And truth be told she was not a favorite of mine in the Fever series. I even started not to read it which would have been a HUGE mistake on my part. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed "Iced". It brought back everything I loved about the Fever Series and I even grew to love Dani. As the main character, I got to see more of her personality and spirit instead of her being the little aggravating sidekick of Mac. Dani's character really blossomed into a wonderful heroine or superhero as she likes to call herself. I got to see more of Ryodan in this book as well, even though he still remains a mystery, pretty much like Barrons was in the Fever series. If you are looking for a hilarious read, mixed with tons of action, mystery and fantasy, look no further.... You will love Iced..... I also recommend listening to the audio version. The narration was great. It added even more flavor to the book!!! I cannot wait for the next one. This is going to be TORTURE!!!!!😂😂😂😂

I don't buy this kind of a book and then enjoy a fourteen-year-old heroine. Not to mention the fact that she is a total brat and not very likeable. I just wanted to slap her. Honestly, I have no idea what all of these awesome reviews are about. I just wanted it to be over.

And the narration was awful. The "Irish" accent was sometimes impossible to understand and most of the time didn't sound Irish at all. Oftentimes I thought I was listening to someone from the deep south. The male narration was good, but the pitch is so much lower than the female that I would have to crank up the volume before I could understand what he was saying!

All in all - probably won't do another in this series. Just Bleh.

LOVED it

Karen Marie Moning is one of my favorite authors and I devoured her Fever series. When I saw Dani O'Malley was going to get her own book, I wasn't too sure if this 14-year old character could carry it off, but after having listened to Iced, I'm very enthusiastic about a Dani series now. I absolutely loved this book and can't wait for the next one. Dani O'Malley is a wonderful joyful character, full of youthful energy, zipping (literally) through life with the attitude that every day is a new adventure. She gets herself in quite a bit of trouble, but her heart is in the right place and she genuinely cares about the people of Dublin, who she tries to help after the wall crash. Reading about her growing up is going to be really enjoyable.

Karen Marie Moning has a talent for creating fascinating, hunky alpha type male characters. In the Fever series we got Jericho Barrons, and in Iced we get Ryodan. Boy do I want to read more about him, especially with Phil Gigante narrating. Right now he's a (sort of) father figure for Dani, but in a few years when she grows up some, I could see more happening between them. I hope so anyway. I love how she stands up to Ryodan, challenges him, and annoys the hell out of him too.

The narration was absolutely fantastic. I was so excited when I read that Phil Gigante and Natalie Ross were doing the narration again, as they did in the last two Fever books. They are so spot on that when they read the different characters, you can tell immediately who they are. I really wish the first three Fever books would be re-read with these two narrators. I know they did that last two, but unfortunately a different narrator was used for the first three, and she just butchers Jericho Barrons voice to the point where I can't listen to it. He sounds like an 80 year old crone. Who smokes. Ugh.

Anyway, loved this book and can't wait for the next one.
