About this listen
It wasn't easy, but I did it. It was a long struggle, but I made it. I found unhappiness in a peaceful world. You can too! Maybe you already have. In that case, this book will show you how you did it. And if you haven't, it will show you how you can do it. Moreover, no matter how unhappy, depressed, or anxious you are, by listening to this book you can become even more unhappy, more depressed, and more anxious. There is no limit to how unhappy you can be.

Feeling stressed out and tired all the time? Out of money by the end of the month? It is quite likely you answered yes to this question. Life ain't easy, that's the truth. And we make it even harder ourselves with unnecessary and unimportant stuff. Wouldn't it be nice to find a solution to all these problems? I won't lie, some of these tips will be hard to do because you are so used to doing them or having them in your everyday life, but it will get easier in no time. Material, emotional, and even electronic clutter is taking a toll on your mind and body.

Story
Are you ready for self-transformation? Many spiritual teachers promise transformation, but Georges Ivanovitch Gurdjieff delivers. Gurdjieff (1872-1949) was born in Alexandropol on the border of Russia and Turkey. Gurdjieff's teachings contain many concepts that, taken together, are referred to as the Work. The idea behind the Work is that our first birth is our physical body, which is all we need to get through life. But we are capable of developing into something higher; just as an acorn can stay an acorn and die or develop into an oak tree....

Story
These lectures were intended by Ouspensky as introductory material for people interested in the work in England. This material is still unmatched as a brief statement of the work's psychological ideas. Designed to be read aloud at weekly meetings of small groups of people interested in the work, they are almost a basic primer of Gurdjieff's psychological ideas on consciousness and spiritual development.

Does it seem like everything is moving so fast these days you can barely keep up? Do you sometimes feel that your life is spinning out of control? Most of us are so overwhelmed by the stuff in our daily lives -- work, bills, family commitments, demands from our kids' schools -- that we rush from person to person and place to place. For many of us, life feels completely out of balance because we give one area of our lives too much attention and the other areas nowhere near enough.

Continuing our study of man, we must now speak with more detail about the different states of consciousness. As I have already said, there are four states of consciousness possible for man: Sleep, waking consciousness, self-consciousness, and objective consciousness; but he lives only in two: Partly in sleep and partly in what is called waking consciousness. It is as though he had a four-storied house, but lived only in the two lower stories.

Marriage is a mysterious, often irrational business. Making it work till death do you part—or just till the end of the week—isn’t always easy. And no one ever handed you a user’s manual. Until now.

Buy this book! You will be in fits of laughter!
Where does How to Be Totally Unhappy in a Peaceful World rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I generally like the Great Courses series, but this grabbed me after listening to a sample. Has to be one of the best things I have ever read! I wanted to write a satirical review, however I do not want to demean the book. It is simply amazing.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The narrator adds so much to this book, perfect casting!
What does Kevin Pierce bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He is the perfect narrator for this story. I actually think this is one of the few cases that the hardcopy was lose something by not being read aloud by this man.
What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?
There is so much, I particularly enjoyed the advice to get and stay in debt, how to alienate friend, how to be easily annoyed.
Any additional comments?
Buy this book! I purchased a copy for myself, after listening I then purchased another copy to gift to my parents. If laughter, true laughter, has eluded you for some time, buy this book. I recommend it highly.
