Kami Khazud is a member of an acrobatic troupe led by his famous father. While Kami is a fine acrobat, he knows this is not his "kazuh", his spirit force, special talent or destiny. In this elegant feudal society, where nobles have absolute rights over the peasant class and intrigue is a way of life, Kami and his troupe must walk more than one kind of tightrope to survive… When a noble known to have abused Kami is murdered, Kami must first prove his innocence and find the murderer.

Story
In the 17th century, in an alternate universe, much of Europe, Asia, and the New World are part of an Empire ruled from England. The Order of Crown, Shield, and Dragon is a legion of special agents for the Crown: special emissaries in time of peace, and invincible warriors in more violent times. They carry special weapons: swords, each of which contains the soul of someone of great power. Even in the hands of a knight of the Order, even wielded in the cause of righteousness, a red sword is terribly dangerous to its owner and all around him.

An Excellent Story
Great story, lots of humor. Kami was an acrobat, now he is a Discoverer of Truths, and some truths are best left unrevealed. Especially since it might cost him his life if he does.
I've loved this story from the first time I read it a few years ago
I only have a couple of reservations about this audiobook, but I don't think that should keep you from getting it.
The first problem I had was the reader. It sounded like he had drank a whole bottle of Nyquil before coming in to work. A bit sleepy with a decided neutral drall to his tone.
Also to start with, the reader didn't have a lot of inflection and expression to the various characters and settings.
This did clear up as the audiobook went along. Perhaps all that was needed was to get used to this particular reader. By the middle of the book these complaints were barely noticeable.
My only other complaint is that this is the second book in the story. The first book is called "D'Shai" and it would be nice if it was also available. There are many references regarding people and events that happened in the first book.
While I've read the first one, anyone who hasn't will have to pay careful attention and mentally make the connections as to what is being spoken about on occasion.
As I said - GREAT STORY, and if you've never read it, this audio edition will be something you listen to more than once. You pick up on things re-listening to it that you missed the first time through making it all the more enjoyable.
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
