About this listen
Claiming your share of the so called “free” land in the rugged and wide Canadian frontier in the 1880s was a difficult, demanding task. When someone tries to run roughshod over the “nesters” increasing the workload and demands, its time to take a stand.
There is more than bad weather for Hank James to contend with as he rides in search of the land of his dreams and the woman of his heart. Portis Martin, manager of a large cattle company, has no use for the small homesteaders that have begun to pepper the area…and he isn’t afraid of using every dirty trick he knows to run them out.
And Portis had been doing a pretty good job of it until what he decides are two saddle tramps, Hank James and his partner, Harry Gilmore arrive in the area.
Hank James wants equality. Hank James wants a life-time partner.
And, damn it, he’s going to get both.

A Must-Listen
Hank James is a man with a mission! He is searching for his true love and his plot of land that will complete his dreams. Life on the Canadian frontier in the 1880s is challenging, more so when the decisions are controlled by powerful individuals. By underestimating Hank James, the powerful individuals are in for a war.
The author, David M. McGowan, blends historically accurate descriptions of events and locations into this action-packed western. McGowan captures the dangers of frontier life and demonstrates it clearly through the dishonest actions of Portis Martin and his hired hands. The character development is robust, accurately reflecting the narrative’s theme. The plot twists are skillfully executed and surprising. I enjoyed the varied approaches used to emphasize that a person’s worth lies in who they are, not how much money they have.
As the narrator, David McGowan delivers a strong performance highlighting the essence of each character authentically and vividly. He articulates clearly and with a strong cadence.
This is an action-packed book with heartfelt moments, criminal elements, and adventure! A must-listen!
