About this listen
Alastair, laird of Edinburgh, would not forgive any debts owed to his lairdship and clan. Those who could not repay met the wrath of Alastair.
When Gordon, father of four beautiful daughters, was forced to beg the laird for money to purchase cattle and provide a better life for his daughters, Alastair agreed and set a timeline for repayment.
When things go horribly wrong and Gordon cannot repay the laird, Alastair requests Gordon's youngest daughter, Morna, until Gordon is able to pay back the loan. Scared of the ruthless laird and heartbroken she is now a prisoner in the laird's castle, Morna vows to escape. She would rather risk death than spend another minute with the laird.
When Alastair's feelings begin to change for Morna, she begs him to let her go back to the family she loves. When he refuses, she plots her escape. But a terrifying secret is about to erupt that will change Alastair's and Morna's lives forever. Can they survive this deadly plan?

There is only one problem: She's a woman in a man's court. In her early childhood years, Sarah experienced the death of her mother and her father's subsequent emotional distance, and she came to two conclusions: God does not care about me, and my accomplishments are the measure of my worth.

This wonderful series opens with the back drop of the Wars of the Roses with the marriage between Eleanor Morland and a scion of the influential house of Beaufort. It is a union which establishes the powerful Morland dynasty and in the succeeding volumes of this rich tapestry of English life, we follow their fortunes through war and peace, political upheaval and social revolution, times of pestilence and periods of plenty, and through the vicissitudes which afflict every family - love and passion, envy and betrayal, birth and death, great fortune and miserable penury.

Story
It is the year of our Lord 1493, and King Henry VII has been seated on the English throne for eight years. He did not get there by chance alone. Nor has he stayed there with ease. He has his favorites, generously rewarding those who serve him well. Sir Nic McKinnon is at the top of that list. For his faithful devotion, Nic finds himself graciously rewarded. That reward is the hand of Morgan Pembridge, seventh duchess of Seabridge, in marriage. The only issue is Nic isn't interested in the bounty, and taking a wife is certainly not in his plans.

lMore like a plot summary than a book.
There is little to recommend this book. The author did not bother with character development, ancillary characters, or even dialog. I stuck it out to the end. but would not get another by this author. The narrator did not have a lot to work with, but the sing song narration style felt like someone reading a really boring bedtime story to a very young child. A totally disappointing read
