About this listen

Alastair and Fiona are betrothed, yet Alastair, successor to the Lairdship of Aberdeen, is rebelling against the arranged marriage. Spoiled and entitled, Fiona desperately clings to Alastair. For if she cannot have him, no one else will.

When Alastair meets his mother's new maid, Aileen, his heart feels a passion that he has never felt for Fiona. But as successor to the Lairdship, he brushes aside his feelings, preparing for his wedding to a woman he will never love.

But Fiona has noticed the way he looks at Aileen and concocts a plan of her own. When Alastair finds out, he is devastated, but he knows there was nothing he could have done to avoid the outcome. Or was there?

Highland Forbidden Love, my first read from historical romance author Blair Keith. My wife is a Scottish romance reader & sometimes books she reads influence me. I don't restrict myself to a particular genre. I'm a sucker for anything with memorable characters and a story that keeps me guessing. The perfect novel? A book that keeps me turning the page long after I should have called it a night. This was a well-written book, I'll definitely read more from this author. Easy listening. Andrew McDermott is a great narrator and his accent brings authenticity to the highland aspect of the romance.

With little time to live and anxious to secure the Lairdship for his son Alastair, Douglas, the Laird, arranges the marriage of his heir to Fiona, the daughter of the head of the neighbouring Anderson Clan. Fiona has long plotted to marry Alastair and run the castle. Once the engagement is announced, Fiona looses no time in getting the wedding arranged. Fiona's mother suggests that the baker's daughter, Aileen, be employed to manage the wedding plans as Fiona complains about organising the wedding unaided.

This is an arranged marriage and Alastair has no love for Fiona, despite their shared child hood adventures. Alastair is prepared to act for the good of the clan. However Alastair soon realises that Fiona's beauty hides a spoilt, cruel and entitled nature. When Fiona delegates Aileen to attend Alastair to plan their wedding, Alastair delights in Aileen's honest and gentle nature. Their love blossoms but there seems no way that they can be together: the Laird's heir and the Baker's daughter.

I love these Scottish highland historical romances. When you have some one with a Scottish accent read the story makes that much intriguing. Almost like you were there.
