About this listen
When two young teens at a county fair are drawn to desperate cries emanating from the House of Horrors, their world spins into chaos. They never enter, but suddenly, they're gone—vanished into thin air. Thus begins a baffling mystery into which rookie detective Teresa Simmonds and veteran Allan Yeats are thrown headfirst into a maze of secrets and lies. As they unravel the web of secrets and cover-ups, the question haunts them: What happened to Yasmine and Jerry, and why does no one want the truth to come out?

Story
In September 2007, Elissa Wall, the star witness against polygamous sect leader Warren Jeffs, gave captivating testimony of how Jeffs forced her to marry her first cousin at age 14. This harrowing account proved to be the most compelling evidence against Jeffs, showing the harsh realities of this closed community and the lengths to which Jeffs went in order to control the sect's women. Now, in this courageous memoir, Wall tells the incredible story of how she emerged from the confines of the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints and helped bring one of America's most notorious criminals to justice.

Characters
Read like a true crime story. I don’t really care for the virtual voice because it just doesn’t have the correct inflection or sense of feeling that is necessary in human beings’ interactions. I did like the characters however save for the lack of emotion shown by birtual dialogue.

Good story if you like Crime Fiction
It was a very good story, but Audible mis-categorized it as True Crime. It took me awhile to realize it, so I went ahead and finished listening. Again, it was an enjoyable listen, but I don’t do fiction. 😕

Love the story hate the narrator!
I loved the story overall! It kept me interested most of the time. The narrator was just so bland and boring it made me want to take a nap.

AI virtual voice YUCK!!
The story was good , but wasn’t a page turner. It took way longer to listen to than should have. Mostly it was the AI voice which made it not so interesting. Sorry this would have been way better if it weren’t for the virtual voice

Terrible Reader!
Audiobooks are meant to be read much like an actor reading a part. There should be appropriate feeling, vocal expression, inflection, and accurate pronunciation of words. This was not the reader of this book.

Virtual Voice is TERRIBLE!!!
The virtual voice they narrated with was horrible. It really actually ruined the story. The "voice" misinterpreted punctuations and was so flat. It was terribly robotic when there should have been emphasis. It wasn't fluid and reminded me of my 8 year old nephew reading to me. I'm sure the story could have been great, but the narration ruined it, 100%!
