About this listen

Vietnam vet Dave Robicheaux has turned in his detective's badge, is winning his battle against booze, and has left New Orleans with his wife for the tranquil beauty of the Louisiana bayou. But a plane crash on the Gulf brings a young girl into his life - and with her comes a netherworld of murder, deception and homegrown crime. Suddenly Robicheaux is confronting Bubba Rocque, a brutal hood he's known since childhood, Rocque's hungry Cajun wife, and a Federal agent with more guts than sense. In a backwater world where a swagger and a gun go further than the law, Robicheaux and those he loves are caught on a tide of violence far bigger than them all.©1996 James Lee Burke (P)1996 Simon & Schuster Inc., AUDIOWORKS Is an Imprint of Simon & Schuster Audio Division, Simon & Schuster Inc. Critic reviews

"Heaven's Prisoners never loses tension-strongly recommended." (The New York Times Book Review)

What listeners say about Heaven's Prisoners

Highly rated for:

The Reviews Praise James Lee Burke's Gripping Storylines, Compelling Plots, Vivid Descriptions, Emotional Depth, And Memorable Characters In His Dave Robicheaux Mystery Novels. However, Many Reviewers Express Disappointment With The Abridged Audiobook Version Of Heaven's Prisoners, Feeling That It Lacks Important Details And Leaves The Story Feeling Incomplete And Underdeveloped. Despite The Criticism Of The Abridgment, The Novel's Themes Of Mystery, Crime, Family, Redemption, And Southern Culture Resonate With Readers. Overall, The Story Receives Positive Reviews, But Listeners Are Advised To Seek Out The Unabridged Version For The Full Experience.

Burke's southern experience

As always Burke's stories are exceptional and done with an amazing and intimate flavour of the deep south..

Wish it were longer

Typically Burke and Robicheau's memorizing world. Dark, poignant and haunting to the finish.

Hard Hitting Cajun Mystery

This is a short story and that is the reason I gave it a 4 instead of a 5. You want more. the narrator does a fantastic job of being the hero. It is an exciting story. You will not be able to put this one down.

Abridged Version

Writing is great! Wish I could have found an audio version that was not abridged.

Abridged version stinks

I am disappointed that the full version of this book isn’t available. His first book in this series was awesome. This book just felt like it was missing a lot. Hoping the next won’t be so bad.

This book will get you hooked if your not already a fan on Mr. Burke's! It's all in it, the story, the inner feelings, the corruption. This book has it all!, I highly recommend it. And anything by Wilbur Smith!

None better.

James Lee Burke is just an excellent writer and story teller. Period. End of sentence. End of paragraph. End of review.
