Do you believe in love at first sight? Paul Auster doesn't. Paul doesn't believe in much at all. He's thirty, slightly overweight, and his best features are his acerbic wit and the color commentary he provides as life passes him by. His closest friends are a two-legged dog named Wheels and a quasibipolar drag queen named Helena Handbasket. He works a dead-end job in a soul-sucking cubicle, and if his grandmother's homophobic parrot insults him one more time, Paul is going to wring its stupid neck.

Story
Arek hadn’t thought much about what would happen after he completed the prophecy that said he was destined to save the Kingdom of Ere from its evil ruler. So now that he’s finally managed to (somewhat clumsily) behead the evil king (turns out magical swords yanked from bogs don’t come pre-sharpened), he and his rag-tag group of quest companions are at a bit of a loss for what to do next. As a temporary safeguard, Arek’s best friend and mage, Matt, convinces him to assume the throne until the true heir can be rescued from her tower. Except that she’s dead.

Smart men never dabble with demons. I never claimed to be smart, but at least, I’m powerful enough to control them. When I bound Havoc to me nearly 300 years ago, I never realized how difficult he’d make my life, although “accidentally” lighting him on fire every now and then does bring a smile to my face. Havoc is handsome, mysterious, and somehow, my closest companion, even if we don’t always get along.

I LOVE Team Lighthouse and being back with them was wonderful!
It was a hard dynamic because I didn't want to put it down, but I also didn't want the book to end!
Thankfully, I will be able to revisit them again and again!
oh, and Michael Lesley is a PHENOMENAL narrator! He brought the books and characters to life.

amazing ending to a great series!
Overview: Nicholas Bell is your just like any other teenager…obsessed with superheroes, writing self-insert fanfiction, and constantly getting his best friends in on his hare-brained schemes. But what happens when the people you thought you knew the best have been keeping secrets and your whole life isn’t as ‘ordinary’ as it seems?
Things to look forward to: delightful mc who is gay, hilarious, and has adhd; super supportive friends & parents, Burrito Jerry, super powers, taking down the bad guy, convos focused on BLM and police abolition
<<SPOILERS AHEAD>>
CW: grief & parent death; ableism related adhd; racism & police brutality (the mc’s dad is a white police officer so the first book does center this as well as his abuse of power after the trauma of losing his wife in a bank robbery - this is challenged in the first book by the black characters & is further challenged by all characters in the second and third books); nationalist political vibes (related to 45)
I cannot express the love I have for these books. The characters are so loveable! The audiobook is top-tier and I would 1000% recommend. This is def a new favorite series; and that epilogue was just… too perfect.

Perfect close to the Extraordinaries trilogy
I laughed so hard that I started crying while listening to this. It was just the humorous book I needed to get me out of my reading slump. After the events of Flash Fire, Nick’s dreams of becoming an Extraordinary have finally come true. In the final installment of TJ Klune’s Extraordinaries series, Heat Wave, Nick must juggle his training as Guardian, his growing relationship with Seth (#PyroStormIsBae), and the bane of all high schoolers’ existence: preparing for college. Oh, and did I mention the burden of all superheroes: saving the day (and not looking like a total goof while doing it)?
Micheal Lesley delivered an uproariously funny performance for the audiobook narration and masterfully brought the many layers of Nick’s personality to life. Heat Wave is a perfect ending to the Extraordinaries trilogy (though I certainly wouldn’t say no to a spin-off featuring Gibby and Jazz). While this book is classified as a young adult novel, I do want to note there is a BUCKET load of sexual innuendos. Young readers who are not ready for that might want to hold off on reading this.
Altogether, if a series filled with amazing storytelling, lovable characters, and top-notch storytelling sounds like something you’d enjoy, then I highly suggest you check out this series – you won’t regret it!

A fantabulous conclusion to the series
Oh my goodness. This book deserves all the stars. TJ Klune should get his own rating scale. This book is a crazy, comedic masterpiece encompassed in a beautiful, heart warming deeply emotional story of love, family, and finding your people and your path. Expect to feel all the things - expect to laugh (a lot), to swoon, to bite your nails, to roll your eyes, to be verklempt, to scream in frustration, and to cry. This is book 3 in the Extraordinaries series and picks up where book 2 left off as we follow the continuing adventures of Nick, Seth and their friends and family. The main characters and all the villains are still present as Nick and friends balance and struggle on the cusp of adulthood while the citizens of Nova City continue to deal with the issue of humans with powers. In the end good will triumph over evil but there will be pain and growth in the journey. The story includes what you’d expect from this genre - fighting, dangerous situations, powered humans, evil masterminds, henchmen, loyal friends and family, tragic back stories, coincidences, plot twists, secrets, snark, and laughs. TJ Klune is a master storyteller who has perfected the art of writing stories whose meaning and emotions stay with you long after you read the last word and whose main characters include ridiculous non-hetero characters who are also characters with such depth and so much heart that you want them to be your best friends. I am sorry to see the ending of the series. I will really miss the characters.
The narration by Michael Lesley is amazing. His talents in voicing multiple distinct characters is unparalleled and adds such a richer dimension to an already phenomenal story.

Amazing LGBTQ+ rep with the superhero world everyone’s been living for as of late. I needed this in my life and I bet you couldn’t ask for a better release time, during an actual heat wave! All in all, the story kept me hooked and it was a fulfilling ending, though I personally never wanted it to end. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Fan forever.

I loved this trilogy with all my heart. I had finally found a main character I could relate to. Cringy, but hilarious, this book series was incredible. The ending was a little unrealistic, but I loved it nonetheless. I'm sad to see it go, but this book brought perfect closure.
