About this listen
As young adults, John and Kara—father and daughter—had much in common. Avid sports lovers. Life of the party. Abiding faith in God. And a diagnosis that blindsided and benched them: aggressive, terminal cancer.
John and Kara battled their diseases with cutting-edge medical treatments. Both had countless prayers lifted on their behalf. Both believed in a powerful, loving God who could heal. Yet one lived and one died. How can we accept both endings as from the hand of God? Did one person have greater favor? Deeper faith?
More than a raw and gripping narrative, Healing or Homecoming is a faith walk through suffering and uncertainty. In two divinely scripted stories, God reveals himself as good, faithful, and sovereign—independent of the outcome.
Enter the author’s firsthand account of her husband’s and daughter’s life-threatening illnesses and find comfort in real-life responses to difficult questions:
- Where is God in suffering?
- Does God really have a plan and purpose for our lives?
- Will God honor my hope and prayers for healing?
- Is there abundant life after devastating loss?

A great true story of faith and love
This book has reinforced in me the belief that God's ways are unfathomable, basically, as human beings we do not have full control over the course of our lives. The author, through her personal experience, gives us a great lesson of love, acceptance and understanding about faith in God and the meaning of life. This is a beautiful story full of great lessons. Highly recommended.

A fascinating and inspiring narrative
Cheryl Liberatore's life story addresses the difficult question of why God doesn't always choose to heal people physically in this life. The narrator reads well and expressively.

It made me reflect deeply
Healing or Homecoming is such a heartfelt and powerful book. The stories of John and Kara’s battles with cancer are raw and emotional, but they’re also filled with faith and hope. It made me reflect deeply on how we trust God, even when outcomes aren’t what we pray for. The author’s honesty about wrestling with big questions like suffering and loss felt so relatable. This isn’t just a book about illness—it’s about finding God’s goodness, no matter what. It really touched me and left me thinking long after I finished it.

Cheryl’s Unwavering Faith and God’s Ever Present Help
Cheryl’s testimony of God’s faithfulness in the midst of HARD is so encouraging. The book resonated with me that even though my Hard is different than Cheryl’s, I’ve seen God’s faithfulness in my life as well. I love her honesty and I felt a true kinship with Cheryl as I saw the Holy Spirit evidenced in her journey.
She writes her story well. It’s easy to understand and she has written in a logical, coherent and interesting way. Love the book and even though I don’t know the author beyond the book, I lover her as well.
Thank you Cheryl for sharing your story with the world.

A Courageous and Moving Family Narrative
Healing or Homecoming really hit home for me as a Christian and a father. While I have not had to endure the pain and suffering so gracefully recounted in this narrative, I did particularly relate to the hopes and dreams of a college athlete and how cancer would impact that. Such a thing would test my faith for sure. Writing this book took courage and I am better for having listened to it. I highly recommend it.
