About this listen

It started as a marriage of convenience, but falling in love has made it anything but convenient.

Fresh from the humiliating annulment of the love match she always wanted, Lady Anne Vincent meekly agrees to the marriage of convenience her father has arranged. She feels hopeful that this marriage can be one of cordial indifference, protecting her from the hurt she knows so well.

Tobias Cosgrove isn’t meant for marriage, free spirit that he is. And yet, as the only son, marry he must. He is thus relieved when his father reveals his future wife to be the calm, collected Lady Anne Vincent, for he is confident she won’t plague him with neediness or hysterics like so many of the other young women in society.

But when Lady Anne's past reappears on their doorstep, she and Tobias are forced to confront whether a marriage of convenience is the type of marriage they wish for after all.

7/20/23 Update:

Despite the poor narration, I finished the novel. The story is quite good, but I stand by my original review below. The narration was a significant distraction. I hope the next book goes back to the original narrator.

Original review:

I am so bummed that the author switched to this narrator. I'm trying to get through it, but I don't think I can do it. The narrator's melodramatic style is horribly distracting and ruins the characters for me. Like the previous novels in this series, I'm sure this one is outstanding, what a shame. Wonder if it's possible to obtain a different version of this audiobook with a different narrator?

Love this series, but the narrator ruins this book

I made the mistake of not reading narrator reviews before purchasing. Literally no one wants a leading man to sound ostentatious, pompous, and pretentious, but here we are. Voices were extremely over done and I was thinking more about the narrator and whomever the director was to let it continue than the story the whole time. It was so bad. I will say her overall accent didn’t bother me though like other narrators do. And really the women’s voices were fine, and I get it, male voicing for a woman is hard but you can still get the acting and inflection down and instead it was just icky,

Story was fine but truly affected by the terrible narration. Also bigamy was at the time a criminal offense in England. I highly doubt that Thomas Hackett would have nonchalantly just hung around after Anne discovered him but somehow no one cared? And he sent his wife to her then followed? It just made no sense… There were playful parts, but… we really just hung out on the surface of the relationship, never truly digging very deep. Or maybe I missed it? I dunno…
I barely made it through so definitely not one I’ll ever listen to again.

Um… has the narrator ever heard a man speak?
