About this listen
When was the last time you felt really, truly happy? If you've ever longed to leave your exhausting days and fretful nights behind, look no further. Author Courtney Ellis recounts a courageous and often hilarious experiment in joy and delight as she awakens to the truth that God doesn't just want us to be holy - he wants us to be happy too! Happy Now is designed to invite listeners to let go of their most serious selves, grant them permission to engage in curiosity and wonder of all kinds, and delight in the release of its transformative effects: creativity, innovation, delight, rest, and, above all, a more trusting relationship with Jesus. Through wry observations, firsthand experience, Scriptural study, and broad research, Ellis addresses questions such as these:
- How does God invite us into play?
- What does it mean that we are created for curiosity?
- In what ways can wonder help us love our neighbors more fully?
Happy Now is a rollicking, investigative, and thoughtful invitation to open ourselves to the joy and freedom of play all over again.

Story
Walking through Psalm 23 phrase by phrase, therapist and author K.J. Ramsey explores the landscape of our fear, trauma, and faith. When she stepped through her own wilderness of spiritual abuse and religious trauma, K.J. discovered that courage is not the absence of anxiety but the practice of trusting we will be held and loved no matter what. The Lord is My Courage is for the deconstructing and the dreamers, the afraid and the amazed, for those whose fear has not been fully shepherded but who can't seem to stop listening for their Good Shepherd's Voice.

If you’re anything like Sophie Hudson, your initial reaction to the hard stuff - the pieces and parts of life that keep you up at night, relentlessly reminding you that the “simple and easy” path is somehow a turn you must’ve missed along the way - is to try to figure out how to make it go away. You might wonder if it’s possible to just ignore it, or, better yet, to burn it all down. But what Sophie found during a particularly difficult stretch is that the Lord, through his word and his people, faithfully reveals how to get up, straighten up, and stand all the way up.

Exactly what I needed
What’s beautiful about Courtney Ellis’ “Happy Now” is that she asks her reader to rediscover play on the heels of her own journey to do the same. She’s not a play therapy expert and her book is not about big sweeping gestures or overhauling our lives.
It’s about bringing out the delight in our everyday moments. It’s about noticing and being intentionally present.
I experienced “Happy Now” as audiobook, and as I listened, I could almost swear Courtney was smiling as she read it to me. Happiness from start to finish. It was a reset after a tough season for world.
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
