About this listen
July 1975.
Three-piece suit, valise, commuter train?
Nah. Drop that junior executive. Enlist in the US Army as an infantry private and see what happens. Oh yeah, better tell your wife.
Nineteen tales, spanning from July 1975 to June 1984, sewn together with the common thread of Tyler Willett, his wife Nancy, and their son Sean. Tales populated by drill sergeants, a collection of stalwart NCOs, and various commanders. These tales capture the conflicts, angst, setbacks, and triumphs as Willett goes from junior corporate executive infantry private to armor lieutenant platoon leader and finally a seasoned tank company commander.
Spliced throughout are candid insights into military family life with struggles and rewards often peculiar to service families but with a recognizable universality. The fears and tears taken in stride with the pride inherent in serving.

Story
Things I’ll Never Forget is the story of a young high school graduate in 1965 who faces being drafted into the Army or volunteering for the Marine Corps. These are his memories of funny times, disgusting times and deadly times. The author kept a journal for an entire year; therefore many of the dates, times and places are accurate. The rest is based on memories that are forever tattooed on his brain. This is not a pro-war book, nor is it anti-war. It is the true story of what the Marine Corps was like in the late 1960’s.

Story
When I returned home from my latest deployment in the U.S. Army, my life began to fall apart. One night, after heavy drinking, I placed my 1911 pistol in my mouth and thought a prayer—silence. I deactivated the safety and began to slowly squeeze the trigger. BANG! I dropped the pistol, and I looked around me, but there was no blood. The bang I heard was the Bible on my desk falling and hitting the floor. I fell to my knees and asked God for forgiveness. I surrendered to Jesus Christ and asked him to help me. He answered.

The Sights Sounds and Feeling of being a Soldier
Rick Bogdan has captured the life of soldiers. This book shows how soldiers learn, the travails, and joys of service. He pays special attention to the family as the center of a successful career. A must read for all. There is much wisdom, appreciation, and Leadership here.
Rick was a natural Leader. Civilians, who have never served will learn how Army management really works in peace and war.

A Must if You Want to Know About Military Life
If you want to understand what each person in the military and their families experience daily this is the book to read. Rick outlines it beginning with the inner turmoil experienced by the soldier when he or she first makes the decision to enlist in the military. He is then able to make the reader understand that this type of decision is not just about the soldier but also their family who becomes a very integral part and will also be experiencing the same highs, lows and fears right along with their spouse or significant other. I won't give anymore details away because I know that once you begin listening, you will have a very difficult time stopping! A+++
