About this listen

A dense black cloud boiled up in the southeastern sky. It rose high and fast, like a time-lapse movie of the birth of a thunderhead. But it was no rain cloud. Wholly black, it reached up and up until it loomed over her, blocking out the sun. Somehow, she knew, it was Death coming for her.

Pre-med student Coral is on vacation in Idaho when something terrible happens. The black cloud is followed by a wildfire and searing heat that lasts for days. She survives deep in a cave but emerges days later to find the world transformed, with blackened trees, an ash-filled sky, and no living creatures stirring - except for her.

So begins her desperate journey to find water and food and other survivors...and the answer to the mystery of what happened.

Note: This is a combined edition of Gray I, Gray II, and Gray III.

Great book with no zombies as the principal threat. Just have to beware of the regular HUMANS. I will listen to this one again. It was refreshing not to have to deal with Zombies.

Yah!!!!! NO ZOMBIES

This story kept me engaged. That impressed me most! Very interesting. And the lack of sex scenes was refreshing. I recommend this book to all my daughters and granddaughters. The narrator was phenomenal, as well. Her reading of several characters at the same time (same scenes) was very professionally done. I hope she does more.

A woman’s perspective.

This is a story that could come true one day. This book is one of the best books I have purchased out of 160 so far. Everything about it is very good. I couldn't wait to listen. This book would be enjoyable to many types of readers. Not to long not to short. Always interesting from the start to finish. A good beginning and a good ending. Always very gripping and puts you in the spot of the characters. What more can you ask for.

One of the top 5 books since joining audible

A great version of the classic "end of the world" story. Very well told. A few small hiccups in some of science and firearms references. But nothing too blaintly off base, just the author writing on subjects he really knows little about. Most readers will never catch the small mistakes. And they don't hurt the story. I,ll be looking for more from this author.

Outstanding!

I've loved the mind bend of dystopian future stories waaay before it was popular, or had its own titled genre.
I found "Gray" interesting and unique. (Admittedly, I've not read other popular books-that-have-become-movies with what some readers are saying are similar).
That being said, a strong female lead who doesn't trade on her wiles, keeps her wits about her, doesn't blow it and do stupid or needlessly violent things, was a refreshing change.
I found the pacing of the story appropriately "journey-like", in that it wasn't an action-packed sprint, but a long march, which underscored the menace of the increasingly gray world.

Grim, but great

You won't want to stop reading it. It just keeps going and going. You think you know what's going to happen and then it pulls a left on you.

You will find yourself coming into the office late

I really enjoy post apocalyptic stories. I think this one was a little too "nice" though. the main characters fall in love but nothing big and flashy. they always manage to escape without major drama. good story just could have been a little more.

good listen
