About this listen

Grapefruit Millie, the first in a series of historical novels about the adventures of a mousetta who lives during the 1800s and whose forefathers create the game of muckeball. Millie descends from the Odet Colony of mice, who settled in "Florica" in 1820. There are three great loves in Millie's heart: the love of grapefruit, the love of sport, and Jason. Before rugby and similar games, muckeball was played above and underground, utilizing a "metwork" that is entered through "mockets", similar to a life-size game of rugby on a multi-level billiard table. This is the national past-time of Trundee, and Millie is one of the star "muckers" of the East School team.

I feel as though this is similar in nature to Peter Rabbit. To me, I feel as though Peter Rabbit is more suited to bring in boys (although certainly not limited to it), I feel likewise that Grapefruit Millie is more suited for girls. You are introduced to Millie and all the inhabitants around her. Millie is a very smart mouse, and can accomplish anything she sets her mind too. Each chapter sets off in an adventure. Although this is one continuous adventure, I feel as though you could use each chapter as their own story. Marnye Young does an excellent job at making each character unique. You know when the characters are young and old, wise and childish. Young also transforms the novel into action. Sometimes the words can't express a feeling of remorse or grief. Just as words meant to be angry may not be taken as such. With the words of the Georges and the narrating genius of Young, Grapefruit Millie should be soon on the road to becoming a must on any child's bookshelf and audio collection.

The next Peter Rabbit!

I never liked grapefruit but I'm suddenly craving it.

A very eloquently narrated children's book. Unique, innocent, and original.
Very easy to follow and listen to. Very G rated theme and plots, which I adore when looking for books I hope to share with my infant granddaughters one day!

A sweet children's book - A must have!
